Multi Crew Experience V1.9 Released

Posted: Wednesday, December 23, 2009 - 23:41
The FS++ team is pleased to announce the release of Version V1.9 of their award winning add-on to both FSX and FS2004 called Multi Crew Experience. This release improves interaction with PMDG aircraft add-ons.

MCE is a speech based add-on that allows the flight sim enthusiast to fly those heavies in a more realistic way. Issue commands to co-pilot, go through the checklist, etc... It is also a serious alternative to VoxATC for interaction with the FS built-in ATC system. A fully working, time limited demo, is available for download.

Aerosoft Releases US Cities X, Chicago

Posted: Wednesday, December 23, 2009 - 14:42
Aerosoft has released US Cities X, Chicago, the fourth in the series (New Orleans, Indianapolis and San Francisco were completed earlier) and is the most complex in many ways. Not only does it cover 5 airports with new ground textures and adds 9 heliports, it also brings back Merrill C Meigs Field, the airport that many of us remember well as it was the default starting location for many versions of FS.

Most of the older simmers took to the sky for the first time from this airport. Now closed, but Aerosoft clearly thought it was time to get it back where it belongs. It's 750 MB of scenery with thousands of buildings and all the skyscrapers that form the famous skyline of this great city. Optionally you can even include the Spire, a planned skyscraper that will change the way the city looks.

Flight1 Releases Audio Environment: Airliner Edition

Posted: Wednesday, December 23, 2009 - 14:39
Flight1 have had huge success over many years in enhancing Microsoft Flight Simulator's realism and making it ever easier for pilots to immerse themselves in the sim. Their latest title Audio Environment: Airliner Edition will again revolutionise your virtual world.

Audio Environment: Airliner Edition replaces the FSX airliner sounds with custom made, high quality stereo sounds. Extensive development time has been taken to ensure that the improved sounds work seamlessly whatever traffic programme you do or don't use - you can even use the sounds in other freeware and payware aircraft add-ons.

On the ground or in the air you will be immediately astonished at how much of a difference this package makes to the realism of your FSX world, and when (if?) you get used to the amazing realism of the sounds of your virtual airports and traffic you can rediscover your favourite FSX aircraft with their brand new sounds.

Samples of the new sounds are available at the Flight1 website. The best way to understand how much of a boost to FSX this product produces is to give it a try, and as with all Flight1 products there's a guaranteed money back offer. If you don't like the software for any reason then just let them know and get a full refund.

Orbx Releases BOB For FSX For Free

Posted: Tuesday, December 22, 2009 - 14:32
Merry Christmas everyone! Here's your little gift from all of us at Orbx - BOB! "He's had a few birth pains over the past week as we've wrestled with the black science of the FSX aircraft dynamics to get him to behave like something resembling human motion. Anyway, he's now ready for you to take on leisurely strolls through our airports."

Tip #1 - Take a walk around Tamworth Airport - it's an amazing experience! Tip #2 - Want a 'noiser' or more hectic ambient soundtrack as you walk? Just swap the 1.wav and 2.wav files in SimObjects\BOB\Sound and you will hear a LOT more ambient noises and city life. Tip #3 - Want some fun on the docks? Hervey Bay Marina is so detailed it's like being there.

Boeing Model 75 Stearman from Golden Age Simulations

Posted: Tuesday, December 22, 2009 - 1:38
New staff reviewer Philip Wilson writes his first review about an ageless aircraft, the Boeing Model 75 Stearman as depicted by Golden Age Simulations. "The Stearman Kaydet first flew November 26, 1934 as the model 73. The prototype for the Stearman Model 75 first flew in 1936 and Boeing built a total of 8,584 Kaydets, and enough spares to build another 2,000 aircraft."

"Overall the models were excellent with the exception of the leading edge of the aileron where it connects to the wing. It’s devoid of any detail. No hinges, no anything. Considering the attention to detail everywhere else, that issue does stand out. I was pleasantly surprised to find the tail wheel operation accurately modeled. The Army versions were fitted with a steerable tail wheel, where the Navy opted for a swiveled tail wheel with a lock. They are both modeled correctly. Three of the four textures are exceptional. They are crisp, clean and look beautiful. I think the military versions should have looked a bit worn, but they are in new condition."

"This package only comes with a VC and no 2D panels are included. Each panel features a custom pop-up radio stack and FSX default GPS295. Most gauges are clear and easy to read. The Turn and Bank Indicator is legible but noticeably blurry compared to the surrounding gauges. The cockpits are accurate, 99% functional and extremely clean. The detail level is low to keep the frame rates high. Additional features I really appreciated were the functionally modeled prop, carburetor heat and magneto controls."

"The sound files for each individual model were created by the very talented Mike Hambley. Anyone familiar with “round” engines knows, they not only have a very distinct sound, but it also changes with each engine type, aircraft, and cowling choice. Choosing any one of the aircraft, you can sit on the ramp with the engine at 1500prm, close your eyes and feel every cylinder firing, sensing the personalities of each different engine as they all make various small, but audible signatures in your mind."

"This Stearman package is fortunate enough to have air files which hide their flaws well. To the everyday user, these aircraft will be a blast to fly. The aircraft can be flown by the “book” all day long, unless you intend on doing things one shouldn’t be doing anyway."

"Golden Age Simulations exceeded my expectations with features directly related to the individual models. The Model 75 Stearman is a great compromise in terms of price, detail, and performance. You get four individual “fun to fly” models, with separate sound and air files, along with excellent support. I would definitely recommend this to the everyday virtual GA pilot."
