PSS B777 Pro 2004
by John Binner on 18 Dec 2005
Avsim news writer John Binner has swapped hats with a reviewer to bring us this write-up of the Phoenix Simulation Software 777.
"Just in time for the holiday season, this bird has something to offer everyone", says John, "PSS has released a product that is sure to fit under any Flight Simmer's Tree."
Commenting on the interior and exterior, "The first high point of this model is the eye-candy. "Walking" around the outside and inside the Boeing is an incredible treat. Inside the cockpit is just as impressive."
About the cockpit, John remarks, "The PSS Boeing 777 includes a working weather RADAR, TCAS, and NAV data on one screen! One of the "problems" widely talked about in PSS circles is an oscillation problem with the 777. I'd like to see more attention here as I'm sure the 777 handles smoothly in real life."
John wraps up his review of the 777 with, "Phoenix's Boeing 777 is a great start. This is a great bargain for the price!"

Thanks for your constructive comments Ben!
As one (at least) of my reviews is in the last five, perhaps you would like to elaborate on why these reviews were so poor?
A disagreement in ideas or interpretation is to be expected; however from your comments, perhaps it the grammar or spelling you have trouble with!

I agree about the 3 and 1/2 stars (It follows Avsim's guidelines), People need to remember it is not necassarily a comparison between products though.

The aircraft model is poor both in 3D modelling (realistic shape, lack of details etc) and in textures because of their quality (sill no high definition) and because they are mostly hand painted textures, both inside and outside. Even with hand painted textures, one can try to make them look real, with depth, special effects like lightning, dirty or something that would NOT let them as simple as they are actually in this product. Just look closely at the tires (ho !), the wings edges (erk!), the virtual cockpit panels (damn, that look rude not only square but the panel texture itself), etc..
I have this model and those bad points should have been raised as well from my point of view, as they are obvious and are directly related, i think, to the short developement time : about 10 months. wow that was a run :)) we can see it.

As author of the unofficial textures upgrade pack for A320 PIC, i can say this product would be already looking much better with a totally new master textures set AND a new model at least as good as Meljet's external model V2 (this one released on January 2003.. hmm yes already 3 years ago) and this new PSS' model in 2005 near 2006 is far from this.

Thanks for your review but i would have appreciated if you were more accurate in your FDE assessment. "Rushed"? "Not ready for the release"? This FDE was 10 months in the development before it was finally out with the aircraft. Every flight dynamics "problem" that you describe in the review relates to the AUTOPILOT operation and not the FDE quality. I would appreciate a correction.
