RBE-New Zealand
by Lydell Stelmack on 9 Dec 2005
New AVSIM staff reviewer Lydell Stelmack looks at a new scenery add-on. Welcome to New Zealand, which brought the spectacular Middle Earth scenery of the epic blockbuster Lord Of The Rings trilogy. This rendition is from Red Baron Entertainment.
Lydell says, "There is a vast amount of area covered throughout New Zealand, and I found myself continuously wandering off my flight plan with a choice of over 350 airstrips, including private farm airstrips and some in very remote accessible locations." He continues with, "Few places on Earth can compete with New Zealand's natural environment and this is reflected in the RBE – New Zealand Scenery Combo. Unlike some scenery add-ons that attempt to over add autogen scenery, the New Zealand Mesh and Topo Scenery is kept in check and what we have here is an impression of the true untamed New Zealand. This makes for a unique unexplored type of flying experience."
Lydell sums up the review with, "This is a premium package that I keep returning to, even choosing simpler and slower general aircraft to enjoy all the scenic beauty."

The reviewer's praise is well deserved. On price: if you can't go for the whole package, start with the Topo Scenery (the download is about $24 in US currency) and use the freeware mesh from Christian Stock's website http://geographx.co.nz/downloads.html. Its resolution is lower (76m vs. 19m), but it's still quite usable, and a big improvement over the default. While you're there, download the free landclass, too.

As a result of reading your review I decided to purchase these products. Wow - my only regret is I didn't do it much sooner! This has got to be the best scenery add-on I have used for FS9. The improvement is spectacular and at last I feel like I am really seeing New Zealand in FS9 as I remember it in real life. If anyone is trying to decide if the price is worth it - trust me, it really is!

I purchased both the topo and mesh files from Red Baron Entertainment and have to agree its absolutely the best add-on that has ever been made for FS9. The installation is straight forward (if you follow the clearly written instructions) and I would never ever think of removing it now. If you want to experience NZ flying as real as it gets this is a must have add-on.

Question: Is there any compatibility problems with other scenery add on like Birdseye and Ultimate USA??
