Hi Bear!
Just read your special edition column. I think you should have included Oleksiy Frolov's Dash 8-300 panel. It's highly innovative, and introduces some features never seen before in FS, such as the ECUs (engine control units). It includes a working TCAS, WX radar and even varible speed windshield wipers, all with no frame rate hit. But most of all, it includes the very best (in my opinion) soundscape available in FS for any plane, anywhere, free or otherwise.
Love your reviews!

Ken,
I've read (in the forums) that many have had good luck with this panel, but I (and a couple of individuals I use to help on occasion) have had a real problem with this aircraft/panel download. Because there have been some that have downloaded, installed, and used this combo with no problem, I have to assume that there is some compatability with my (our) systems at work here. If I even attempt to choose this aircraft/panel from my menu, it crashes my computer so bad (not just FS2002, but my entire system) that a manual reboot won't even work, as I have to power off my system (by pulling the plug from the wall), power up, and perform a disc refrag before I can even use my computer again. So, what ever new features Oleksiy has included, I cannot even attempt to fly this aircraft. I have since removed all traces of this aircraft and panel from my harddrive and so far everything seems to run okay, but until some kind of patch or whatever is needed to get it to work on my system I simply can't offer any kind of opinion on it! Sorry!

Myself and two other friends spent the day on RW experimenting with the 727 panel and airfile. It is a monster to handle but a real buzz to fly. Airspeed control is the key and getting the configuration set for different phases of flight rewuires forward planning to avoid the screaming siren that won't stop if you have one little thing just not quite right. It's excellent, best free panel since his 737 for FS2000. And the Reality XP Flightline Avionics GPS seems to work OK with it, just like UPS in the real world. Outstanding! Dreamfleet better have it together to justify buying their version, this one is so good! Robert Helton CVAG [Respond to this Article] [Return to Articles List]

I totally agree with your selections. Both panels are indeed great. There is no doubt about it. They are fantistic. As far as the Dash 8-300 panel, it too bad it does not work with your computer. I think for the complexity that is in this panel it is outstanding. There is no doubt about it. Oleksity really brought the whole world of flight simmulation up one notch for this work. I do hope that you will get the panel with the plane to work and hopefully, the kind gentleman would also get a Bear award for his outstanding work. RP727 and RXP GPS-update. Although it's possible to add the ministack and GPS to the panel.cfg, and it appears on the panel, it will not work so far. It probably needs the radio stack added too but that might cause other problems. Ah well, it's more challenging and fun to fly VOR nav anyway! Robert Helton CVAG [Return to AVSIM Front Page]
