Pacific Fighters
by David Swindle on 2 Jan 2005
Avsim staff reviewer David Swindle has written his report on Ubisoft's release of "Pacific Fighters".
This add-on to IL-2's Aces Expansion Pack takes the action into the Pacific Ocean. Here you can fly single missions or complete campaigns in the Pacific Theatre.
"Overall, Pacific Fighters is one very impressive product," says David, "it is a lot of fun and may well be the Pacific theater sim that everyone has been waiting for."

Save your money. I'm not an online flyer and do not haunt the IL2 website, so I was one of the people who bought Pacific Fighters when it hit the store shelf based off of the development teams record and what the box said. That was a mistake.

After installing the game I noticed that one of the aircraft listed on the box was not included. I went on line to see about this and any patches...according to the developers the game was released incomplete but "the" patch to bring it up to advertised standards would be released in two weeks. That was almost two months ago but there is lots of talk on the next game they are developing.

Getting to the (incomplete) game itself. Great potential around the proven IL2 engine...and an utter disappointment. A sim about the Pacific air war and it does not include any flyable carrier torpedo planes but does include some obscure aircraft with minimal history in the Pacific.

The campaigns are limited and almost appear to be an after thought. Take the Pearl Harbor scenario for instance; great flight engine, great aircraft characteristics, great scenery...only to approach Pearl Harbor and see distinctive BRITISH ships on Battleship Row.

Pacific Fighters is a bomb. There's lots of talk about their upcoming Battle of Britain, even though they haven't finished this game yet. Despite that, I look forward to the Battle of Britain sim...the one from Shockwave. I'll take a pass on Ubisoft.

One minor correction to David Swindle's PF review: there is indeed a "warp to next waypoint" feature in PF, similar to that in CFS. It's called "Time Skip" and needs to have a control assigned to be active.
Cheers,

Can anyone help with this?
My Dad has quite a collection of flight simulators, so he's no amatuer at installing and flying, but he bought Pacific Flight simulator and everytime he opens it, his wallpaper and all icons turn completely upside down and the game loads upside down -- the only way to play would be to stand on your head or turn the screen upside down -- when he's able to close the program, his wallpaper and icons right themselves -- he's had no response from the manufacturer -- any suggestions????
Thanks for any help anyone can offer
