XP pb12 is out

Phew, not just me then ha-ha ;) its not a biggie, but sometimes you do have to wonder about priorities.

After a quick test, I'm getting some oddness with xEnviro that I have not seen before, with dark lines on the horizon line. With XP11 in BETA then xE must also be considered BETA, but it all adds to the woes of an XP user, particularly if you consider weather and atmosphere as important as I do.

It might just be me, but this BETA seems to be running quite rough with the flights I've done so far. Lots of stutters and frame rates lower than I have been getting with other releases.

Simming wise, this may have to be a P3D only weekend.

I really expect the sky banding, missing moon/stars and glowing trees to be resolved at Steam release. It would be very bad for X-Plane if they're not.

I doubt that, they would risk to sell some more copies...

It has to be said, they seem to find the time to model a bobblehead Austin, which must have taken a few hours, but leave glaring issues untouched across major revisions

+1 I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this (As well as the pilot flying the Cirrus Jet).

Well mind you guys: the person who does the visuals might have absolutely nothing to do with core graphics engine or flight model coding ... Thus, adding such tiny "gems" might not be a big priority issue for him/her when the aircraft itself is finished (and this artist couldn't do any fixing in other areas anyways ... because its a completely different job profile).

So, things like this might seem really odd to outsiders (who have not much of an idea, how sim development works - and I suppose, Tony for example should have at least a slight idea ... thus I am surprised that you are surprised) ... but the hard reality of sim developments (where a lot of very different skill sets are adding to the same big picture) does not make this a contradiction or "odd".

I was just going to report that. I couldn't start the Jardesign A320.

No we know why developers are reluctant to target XP11 in it's beta stage :-)

Well some of the issues seem to be cross-over to me. This, as we are always being told is a very small team, so maybe a bit of joined-up development thinking would not go amiss sometimes, or are these people working in a total vacuum? ;)

Ha-ha very condescending indeed, and very-very much NOT TRUE.

But carry on.

More so, how we as users should really wait until a product is out of beta stage before paying money to another product that will undoubtedly break along the way.

Well, yep if I was doing it as a hobby then I'd agree. But putting stuff like that in a payware product when people demand little bugs fixing is not surprising. As a developer in real-life, I would never dream of doing this, even as funny as it may appear (but X-Plane isn't exactly a product used in hospitals :))

The engine thing.... ouch!  Just renders nearly all XP10 addons useless.   Why change it?  Some addons I'm using I doubt will ever be corrected... argh

Ryan, report it as a bug, they expect everything to keep working, except if they announced it to be obsolete.

Then, startup XP10 and enjoy your XP10 addons !

But I agree, this beta run is rough and long. Personally, I look forward to the sky and weather enhancements.

My payware Turbo Goose, Carenado PC-12, and RWDesigns Twin Otter work fine, loading with engines running in pb12. Those are all PT-6 turboprops, probably no coincidence, as they're Austin's current fave engine. My Carenado Aero Commander with piston engines shuts down after loading.

The release notes say something about how payware authors will have to adjust the idle settings, but I don't think Laminar can get away with forcing that on the payware devs.

If Austin has changed the engine models so they require a different idle setting, why not just expose that as a checkbox in PlaneMaker, leaving it as-is for the pre-XP11 models? They did that for the popup GPS when it was introduced. I'll bet we see a hotfix patch for this soon.

So much about many of the comments in this thread leaves me shaking my head and leaves me feeling a bit, I don't know, disappointed.

Well, you know what they say about opinions...

I guess rather than rant about it, I'll just nod a thank you to the original poster for the heads up. And then maybe I'll go play a 'game'... or do something else completely non-X-Plane related.

This is what happens when you're using beta software. This happens with P3D after an update where certain addons won't work until they're updated. You rolls the dice, you takes your chances.
