| Originally a scenery designed for
FS2002, it has now been modified to be FS2004 compatible. The Airport
location is colocated with HSP's BASE scenery LGIR location. The
FS2004 LGIR scenery enhances the airport with custom objects in
further detail beyond the basic "HSP Base scenery". In both
cases,
the airport has been modified for correct location and physical
characteristics according to DAFIF. The airport is Greece's 4th
busiest near Heraklion city, the capital of Crete island. Especially
during the summer months the airport capacity is brought to a maximum. There is no ILS for landing but a VORDME approach.
Kazantzakis coastal airport has terrain from the South and most often
strong crosswinds from the North-Northwest. Missed approaches and
diversions (to Chania Souda LGSA) are not a rare event during windy
days & nights. On some occasions sea waves hitting on the rocks near
threshold runway 27 rise water sll the way up to aircraft windscreens on short
final approach. |
