Tough to see perhaps but this is the new platform Steve and Ron were working on last night. Constructed with 2" x 4" lumber it sits about 12" above sea level, errr the floor I mean.
Here is the reason for the platform. Rudder pedals. These fellas need almost a foot of depth with all the mechanisms below. Good lesson learned on sim building right here, things change as you go along. !
Here is a close up of the pedals. The large shock absorber on the side is there to kick the pedals on both sides of the flightdeck back to neutral. A steel bar actually connects the Captain and FO's pedals together.
Another shot showing the flooring and beams. Steve and Ron were leveling everything as well as checking overall alignment. Looking good. We need to make sure we get Ron over more! Ron is going to tackle the Fibreglass A320 Shell shortly. Big job cutting and reassembling.
Here is the latest shot (Dec 4) of the sim parts sitting on top of the podium. The rudder pedals are in their rough position and need some adjustment in terms of width between both sets. The rod that attaches them needs to be widened.
Another view of the sim.
