General

Q - You mention in your installation instructions to create a scenery layer. How do I do that?
A - There's a good tutorial, complete with pictures, on this at
fsnordic.net. Click "Tutorials" on the left navigation bar.

Q - After installing the scenery, I have just grey buildings. What's wrong?
A - You have the textures in the wrong folder or you have a folder name misspelled. It's important that you set up the scenery according to the instructions. For each scenery, a descriptive folder should be created under the "Addon scenery" folder. To avoid possible conflict problems, do NOT name it the same as the city it covers. For example, to install Denver scenery, name it "dia" or "kden", but not "Denver". Under the descriptive folder, you should have two folders, one named "scenery" and one named "texture". The spelling of these two folders MUST be exact. The scenery textures must be in THAT texture folder for the scenery to work properly. Here's the structure:
--fs9
----addon scenery
------kden
--------scenery    <----- .bgl files go here
--------texture    <----- texture files go here, unless otherwise instructed

Q - Your screenshots show the right airlines at the right gates. I have no traffic showing up or just the default World Travel, Orbit, Emerald Harbor Air, etc. Have I installed the files incorrectly?
A - Probably not, if you're seeing all the buildings, gates and ground vehicles with the proper textures. The scenery comes with an AFCAD file that makes the proper gates and airlines available. "Available" is the key word. The traffic files on your machine must support it. The scenery does not come with any traffic files or flight models. For more information on this, browse the TTools forum on AVSIM.

Salt Lake City V2

Q-The hold short lights work properly when I start at the airport, but flash together when I've finished a flight and land there. Is this normal?
A- This is a known bug. I'm still searching for a fix.

Q-I don't want the Mountain Air or Delta Virtual Airlines buildings. Can I remove them?
A- Yes. Read the documentation that came with the file.

Q-I changed the AFCAD file and now the ground marks don't line up anymore. How can I move them?
A- You can't. The ground markings are in the scenery files. AFCAD files are part of the facility data. The two are separately compiled and generally independent of one another.

Q-After I installed SLCv2, the FedEx trucks don't show up in Boise anymore. Is there a fix?
A- Delete the file FedExTrucks.bgl from the addon scenery\boise\scenery folder. Beginning with SLCv2, I've put that library in a shared folder, and having it twice confuses FS, so it just doesn't draw them.

Q - The ILS for 16R should be 111.9, but it doesn't go active. I get the backcourse for 34L. What's wrong?
A - You have version 1.0 of the scenery. As stated in the documentation with the file, there was a problem between FS2004 AFD files and SCASM compiled files. I could not get the ILS to work on both ends with the same frequency until the SDK's came out, which was after the file release. The frequency for 16R was changed in version 1.0 to 111.95.

Get version 1.1. This was fixed, as well as incorporation of several other enhancements.

FS2002 Scenery

General

Q - Do I need extra textures for FS2002 scenery?
A - No. I have included all textures needed for any FS2002 scenery with each distribution file.

Q - After installing the scenery, all buildings are white - not textured.
A - You have improperly installed the texture files. Double check your set-up against the installation instructions to verify that you have placed the appropriate textures in the appropriate folders.

Q - You mention in your installation instructions to create a scenery layer. How do I do that?
A - I've never been very good at explaining it - so I found a good article about it.

Q - When loading the scenery, I get an error message that says "scenery library object not found".
A - You probably have not correctly installed the scenery. The tree library and textures must go into your main scenery folder, not the Denver folder. Read the installation instuctions again, paying particular attention to the installation of the trees library and textures.

Q - After installing the scenery, I don't see the "tent tops" on the main terminal building.
A - Set your scenery density to at least very dense. The terminal top will not show up in lower settings. This setting will have no other effect on the scenery.

Q - The frame rates are so bad that I can see the scenery move from frame to frame.
A - As it states in the documentation, if you have anything less than about a 700 Mhz machine and 256 MB of RAM, expect POOR performance. There are over 600 objects in the scenery and slower machines just don't have what it takes to draw them. Adding AI aircraft, using detailed panels with detailed non-forward views, and using background programs such as weather programs will degrade the performance even more. As a benchmark, the scenery was developed on a P3-733 with 256 MB RAM. With AI turned off, no background programs, only the minimum loaded programs in Windows, and using default panels, I get about 12-13 fps at the lowest point.
ADDED 4/5/03 - It's come to my attention that on some systems, particularly those running WinXP, that framerate issues can be resolved by renaming the Denver folder that hold the scenery to DIA, KDEN, or anything OTHER than Denver. Apparently with the folder named Denver, FS is fighting with itself to determine which scenery is really loading (the default is named Denver). Thanks to the guys at Frontier Virtual for alerting me to this.

Q - The scenery really hurts my framerates. What can I do about that?
A - Get a faster computer? Seriously, though, you can remove the display of static aircraft. Set your scenery density to normal, and no static aircraft will show up. That should improve your frame rates significantly. I released Salt Lake early in the game for FS2002. I've since learned a few tricks specific to FS2002 and will update Salt Lake in the near future to make it more frame rate friendly.

FS2000 and FS98 Scenery

General

Q - Some of your FS98 and FS2000 scenery says I need to get more textures. What files do I need?
A - You will need textures from VOD 3.0, Airport 2.10, and ASD. These files can be found at AVSIM by doing a search for "textures" in the FS98 'Must Have' files section; or at FlightSim.com by going to the "Must Have Files" link in the file library section of the Main Menu. Other common textures that I used for those sceneries can be found in the links below.

General Textures

These are the general textures that I've created and use in FS2000 and FS98 sceneries. Choose the appropriate textures for the version you've downloaded.

FS98 general textures - These are common textures and should be put into your main texture directory. Note - these textures will not work with FS2000 scenery.

FS2000 general textures - These are common textures and should be put into your main texture directory. Note - these textures will not work with FS98 scenery.
