March 1, 2008
I've released Salt Lake City v2. I didn't get everything done that I wanted
to, but it's good enough to release. This has been a LONG project and I need a
break from it. I may work a bit more on it from time to time and later
release a 2.1 version. Thank you to all the beta testers who helped me
catch the little things in the final days before release. I'll soon post a
preview of the next one, which is already about 1/3 done. Obviously it's a much
smaller airport!
February 23, 2008
I've added almost 300 objects to SLC in the last few weeks, and it's close
to release. It's been in beta for about 4 weeks now. I hope to have the
public release by March 1.
January 12, 2008
I've updated a couple screens of SLC v2. Since releasing Casper, I've had
several e-mails asking if I'm working again on SLC v2. The answer is yes. My
time is still limited, but I'm doing what I can when I can. I'm also being asked
a lot if it will work for FS9. The answer again is yes, it's being created for
that. I did not make the move to FSX, and given what I've heard from many folks,
I have no plan to.
December 31, 2007
Casper/Natrona County International for FS9
is released! It's reworked from older versions in GMax and xml, and the
buildings are updated for their current status. The passenger terminal currently
only has one jetway used by Northwest, but that may be changing with United's
change in flight schedule upgrading two of the five arrivals and departures
daily with CRJ-200 aircraft, replacing flights that are currently using Dash-8
aircraft. If the terminal changes, I'll update this for the change.
November 25, 2006
I'm continuing to work on Salt Lake
City - for FS9. I'm told that it works in FSX and I suppose that is good.
However, after reading many reviews and discussing FSX with a few people that
have it, I'm going to do something I haven't done in a while. I'm sticking
with FS9. I'm not moving to the new version, at least for the foreseeable
future. Based on my discussions, I've determined that my three year old machine
just doesn't have the horsepower to run it, and I'm not going to spend thousands
of dollars upgrading. FS9 has worked great for me, and I guess it will continue
to have to for a while.
One other thing - if you've sent me e-mail and I haven't responded, I may not have gotten it. I usually get between 300 and 400 spam messages on a normal day. Consequently, several months ago I deployed multiple layers of message filtering. In the beginning, I scanned the filtered messages, but that got too tedious as well. I just have the software junk them completely now. If your subject line is blank or has something like "hi" or "Wanted to touch base" it is getting junked. To assure it comes through, start it with "scenery" or "FS9" or something that clearly marks the intent. It's too bad it's come to this, but the spammers just don't end. I will probably soon scrap all my e-mail address and start over. Hopefully it will take them a while to catch up.
September 4, 2006
I've received quite a lot of e-mail
this summer asking if I'm still working on a GMax version of Salt Lake City. The
answer is yes, I am, but as always my summers don't offer much free time to work
on flight sim things. I've actually chipped away at it some this summer, so the
conversion of the prior scenery to GMax is about 80% done. I've also been
corresponding with a flight sim enthusiast who works at the airport. With his
assistance, the GA area on the east side may be also be completely rendered. I
may release the commercial terminals first, and add the GA area as an update.
February 19, 2006
I'm currently updating Salt Lake
City to version 2 using GMax objects. I've also received a few photos of the
east ramp, so I'll do some objects there as well - something I've never done
with prior versions. I don't have any real good photos of the E concourse or the
international terminal. If you have some, please send them my way.
January 13, 2006
Boise is released! Where I go
from here, I'm not sure. I may concentrate on some smaller feeder airports, but
it largely depends on what airports I get good photos to work from. I get dozens
of requests for various airports every year, but unless I know what they look
like, I can't do them. That's actually how I picked Boise as the latest project
- I got a request for it which was accompanied by about two dozen high quality
digital photos. I'm also considering updating SLC with all GMax objects. It was
my first FS9 airport and even though it was much better than the FS2002 version,
it still has frame rate issues.
December 30, 2005
I'm almost finished with Boise!
I need to put in a few more generic hangars (better than the blocky default
ones) and work on the ground a bit near the terminal and I'll be about ready for
release. I'm going to put out a beta this weekend. If that goes well, this
should be released by the second week of January.
December 21, 2005
I'm getting close to the end of
the Boise photos I have to to work from. I have two more ANG hangars to build
and place in the middle section of the south ramp and the FedEx hangar on
the NE ramp. It's not too late to get them to me if you
have photos of any of these areas. If I get no photos, I'll place some generic
hangars on the NE ramp and leave most of the SW ramp default.
December 11, 2005
Mountain Air established a training site at Cedar City, and the default
scenery was really poor - only three small blocky generic buildings. I decided
to put something together for it over the weekend. It's still small, but better
than the default.
December 8, 2005
Several people over the last few months have asked about donations for downloading the scenery. I never really had a way for that to happen until now. I've added a PayPal donation option to the main page.
Many, many long hours go into each scenery I build, and it's getting more
complex all the time. Donations would be appreciated, and will help ensure that
scenery design still gets a slice of my time.
November 25, 2005
Work has resumed on Boise. I have the main concourse and the beginning
of the commuter concourse done now. Next is the major challenge of trying to
capture the terminal buildings.
November 10, 2005
My busy time started a bit earlier this year than normal, and ended a
bit later. As of today, I'm finally off my 7-day a week work schedule again
until about mid-March. I've had several e-mails lately asking if I intend to
finish Boise. The answer is yes. It may take some time to get back up to speed
(I literally have not looked at the development files since March), but I'll
start working on it again soon.
February 5, 2005
I'm finally getting the hang of GMax. All objects you see in the picture on the
main page are now GMax created. There are still some quirks that make me scratch
my head, but I think I'm getting it. Hopefully, it will allow me to better
capture the beautiful architecture on the Boise terminal buildings.
January 15, 2005
Starting with Boise, I will be creating all 3D objects in GMax. The learning
curve seems to be a bit steep, but I've jumped right in the past week or so and
it's going fairly well. Once I get a good understanding, the project should go
fairly quickly.
January 2, 2005
As you can guess, I've settled on Boise as the next airport. It's small enough
that I can probably finish it before my busy season starts again, and with all
the recent changes there it's interesting enough to catch my attention. I have
pretty decent pictures of the terminal and concourse areas, but none of the
airport periphery. If you have some, or know of where I can find some, please
let me know. I already have all resources available from the Boise Municipal
website, airliners.net and jetphotos.net.
December 24, 2004
Lambert-St. Louis is released. Happy Holidays to all!
I'm trying to figure out what the next project might be. I've considered PDX, BOI, BIL or even possibly MSP. However, my internet searches of photos just haven't provided enough material to do any of them. Scenery has become just complex enough that high quality digital photographs are needed to do much more than just put some generic buildings in the right places. I have no air travel planned, so I won't be personally getting to any airports. I guess life has to have some mysteries.
December 19, 2004
The testing has been going well. I've found out that Lambert is undergoing
quite a few changes recently, and I'm making adjustments to try to compensate
for them. I'll probably be ready for a first release within the week. It will
change the terminal areas only. With additional photos, I may update it later to
add some of the cargo and maintenance areas.
November 26, 2004
I finally have most of the base and buildings laid out for Lambert. I'm
now working on some of the detail items like light poles, gate signs and ground
vehicles.
October 30, 2004
Once again, my busy summer and fall schedule kept me away from flight sim things. I now have a little free time, and I've started working on St. Louis again. Even now I'm busier with the real world than normal for this time of year, so expect things to go rather slowly. I received many e-mails during the past few months asking about it's progress, and I just was not able to respond to many of them personally. Please accept my apologies.
January 17, 2004
Denver International 1.1 update is released. Changes include pushback trucks at each gate; airline logos on the gates; a docking system at most gates; and additional ground vehicles scattered around the airport.
January 10, 2004
I've started the groundwork for St. Louis. In the meantime, I'm working on an update for Denver. The new Denver files will have pushback trucks at each gate, airline logos on the gates, a docking system at most gates, and additional ground vehicles scattered around the airport. It should be released soon.
December 28, 2003
Phoenix was released. It re-works only terminals 3 and 4. Terminal 2 and the cargo areas are default. I may go back at some point and update the other areas, but this release is a major enhancement for the most used porions of the airport.
December 20, 2003
Phoenix went to first beta today. It is probably 90% finished now.
December 10, 2003
I'm probably about half finished with a first release for Phoenix. After Phoenix, I'm going to depart from my normal western only stance and move to the midwest for a trial run. Lambert-St. Louis will be next on the block. I've never been to the airport, so I'll be working only from photos that I can get from whatever sources. If you or anyone you know wants to have a better rendition of St. Louis, please help me with good photos of the airport.
December 2, 2003
Salt Lake City 2004 is now released. I will now move on and finish Phoenix for 2004.
November 29, 2003
Salt Lake City 2004 is now about 90% complete, and has gone to beta. I need to get gate numbers on the concourses, fix a couple of the cargo hangars, and do some final testing before release.
November 22, 2003
Salt Lake City 2004 is now about 75% complete. I've rewritten all the macros in NovaSim, and am updating and/or changing most of the custom textures. As with Denver, frame rate changes are undetectable so far.
November 16, 2003
Denver 2004 has been released. Note that the ILS for 16R is 111.95, not the published 111.9. I've rewritten all Denver macros using NovaSim, which optimizes FS2004 code. I've been impressed with the results. Framerate changes are almost undetectable. In fact, it has been reported by one person that installing the Denver scenery actually increased frame rates as compared to the default. GMax may be the way to go for planes, but I'm hooked on NovaSim for scenery. Rafael has a winner here. Updating Salt Lake City for FS2004 will be next on the board.
November 12, 2003
The site is back up! Denver 2004 has gone to beta and should be available soon.
October 15, 2003
As usual, the summer months kept me way too busy to think about flight sim things. I finally purchased and installed FS2004 last week. There look to be some opportunites here. Also as usual, I will concentrate my future efforts on it since it's the latest version. I've already started to update Denver for FS2004. Salt Lake will be soon behind. I will likely finish Phoenix for FS2004 - even though it is one of MS's "detailed" airports.
April 6, 2003
Work is progressing on Phoenix. I have terminal 4 done, and will soon start on terminals 3 and 2. Taxiway signs are being placed as I go, and I have then done for four of the taxiways.
March 25, 2003
Denver International update #1 is released. This update adds runway 16R/34L to the scenery. The runway was under construction as of the date of this posting, and accordingly, the runway is not operational. It has no ILS or other appraoch navigation, markings or lighting. The runway shows closed on both ends. The taxiways to the runway are fully painted and lit at night. I've also added an office building and hangar for Virtual Frontier.
March 23, 2003
I've posted the latest screenshots of Phoenix. I'm squeezing in an update of Denver that will hopefully be released soon. I'm adding runway 16R/34L and the taiways to it. The runway is not complete yet in the real world, so this one won't be either.
March 9, 2003
Kansas City International is released today. It's not nearly as detailed as most of my other scenery, but better than the default. If I ever get any photos of the airport's environs, I'll update it sometime in the future.
March 5, 2003
I had to fly to Phoenix last week, and was able to get some decent pictures of much of the airport. Sky Harbor will be the next major project. I've got the base already laid for it. I still haven't received any photos of the non-terminal areas of Kansas City, so I will soon release that.
February 20, 2003
Jon Steffy's AFCAD files for Salt Lake City have been added to the Salt Lake City page.
February 16, 2003
I could no longer stand taxiing in the dirt at Seattle, so I enhanced Seattle this weekend. It's not a major workover, I just added a concrete tarmac, taxiway signs, and a cargo hangar for my VA. The file is available for download now.
February 13, 2003
I had a couple messages telling me I had too many gates at KCI. I got the gate map from their website and removed the "extras". I've reworked everything now but the cargo & GA areas. I have no idea what they look like, so I may soon release what I have and leave those areas as is.
January 25, 2003
I started work on Kansas City International today. I've never been to the airport, and I have limited photographs of it. I got what few there were at airliners.net. That will at least get me started. If anyone has photographs of the airport please send them my way.
January 5, 2003
I've released a first version of Denver 2002. I'm still not completely happy with it, but it's highly useable in its present form. I've already got ideas for updates, when time permits.
