FS2002 MV Challenge Tropical Solomon Islands 2

MV CHALLENGE FOR FS2002

Tropical Solomon Islands 2 - info and screenshots

Pilot scheduled round trips with intermediate stops at small airstrips in the spectacular tropical Solomon Islands, with variable rough weather, very few navaids and several system failures. The trips simulate Solomon Airlines flights out of the Henderson airport of the capital Honiara to various outlying islands. The real flights use Twin Otters or Islanders.

The challenges of these flights include the inclement weather, sometimes with poor visibility, turbulent winds and wind shear, a scarcity of navaids, and small rough runways as well as aircraft system failures.

These are mainly visual flights. ATC may be used in flight following mode.

Each of the 5 round trips takes from 3 to 6.5 hours, including 2 to 4 intermediate stops, according to the actual Solomon Airlines schedule.

No add-ons are required.

Use the default FS2002 Pro Cessna Grand Caravan.

For realism, you may optionally replace the aircraft with a De Havilland Twin Otter or a Britten-Norman Islander. For those flights that in reality use a Twin Otter, I recommend the Solomon Airlines Twin Otter for FS2000 by Premier Aircraft Design: file dhc6ie2k.zip (download directly from
Avsim). A panel and sounds for FS2002 Pro by the same authors are available (files propnl22.zip from Avsim, prosnd-1.zip from Avsim, and prosnd-2.zip from Avsim). (All these files are also available from FlightSim, after logging in).

For the flights that in reality use an Islander, I recommend the Air Seychelles Britten-Norman Islander, which includes a simple panel, by Mike Stone and Jean-Jacques Parel (file britas.zip from Avsim or FlightSim), and optionally the corresponding sounds by Marcel Kuhnt (file bnsounds.zip from FlightSim).

Included are: startup FS2002 flights with preset weather, regional maps.

This MV Challenge is a complete rewrite for FS2002 and a major extension of the MV Challenge "Tropical Solomon Islands" for FS2000.

The five round trips of this MV Challenge will let you visit a dozen airstrips around the Solomon Islands (some are made of coral!); the capital Honiara on Guadalcanal Island serves as the base:
