FS2000 MV KAL007 mystery Challenge

FS2000 MV CHALLENGES

KAL007 mystery - info and screenshots

This challenge recreates a dramatic and tragic flight from Anchorage (Alaska) to Seoul (South Korea), played out during the height of the Cold War in a very dangerous region. The official story in the West is that Korean Air Lines flight 007 accidentally deviated from its assigned flight plan and innocently drifted into Soviet airspace; the Russians then and now claim that it was an American spy mission without passengers and that they had to shoot it down.

But reality probably was more complicated, since the official accounts contain contradictions and inconsistencies. There are many versions of what may have happened: try out some of them within the safety of FS2000!

Provided are: 3 startup FS2000 flights; 3 flight plans based on 3 scenarios; a map showing the complete routes from Alaska to Asia, and a map zooming in on the fatal region.

Map showing different possible routes from Anchorage to Japan and Korea; KAL007 is said to have been shot down near the Russian Sakhalin Island, close to Japan's Hokkaido:

Map showing the tragical area, with the official fatal track (red), the normal flight plan (green), and a hypothetical track proposed in a revolutionary scenario ending near Niigata, Japan (yellow):
