The ProPilot Installation and Startup FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Use of the 3Dfx.com Glide 2.54 Beta driver is known to cause problems! You should be running Glide 2.53 drivers, or the latest version certified/supplied by your manufacturer. See the Video Card / 3D Graphics FAQ for more information, and links to drivers for the most popular cards.

Actual Installation 'problems' have been few and far between. Before starting, it's recommended you run SCANDISK and then DEFRAG on the drive you intend to install Pro Pilot '99 to. It's also recommended you do a complete install (approx. 425 mb) of Pro Pilot '99 if space permits.
When I try to install Pro Pilot, I get an 'Error - 113' message.

Error 113 is typically caused by the fact that your windows is using a 16-bit real mode driver for the CD-ROM instead of the 32-bit drivers. Pro pilot will not operate properly with 16-bit real mode drivers for the CD-ROM.

You can verify this by right-clicking My Computer, and selecting the Performance tab. Under File system you will probably see something other than 32-bit and it will have something other than "Your system is configured for optimal performance" at the bottom of this window. If this is the case, you will need to get 32-bit drivers for your CD-ROM either from the manufacturer's website or see if Microsoft has an updated driver for your CD-ROM.

Pro Pilot gets to 8 percent installed, then I get an error 'Not Enough Disk Space', but I know I've got plenty!

There have been a couple of instances where, for some unknown reason, the default 'Install To' drive is pointing at the CD-ROM, and not a hard drive. Double-check the destination drive is, in fact, a hard drive.
Pro Pilot installed, but when I tried to run it, I got an error 'Unable to play .AVI'.

Most likely, Windows 95/98 doens't have an .AVI player installed. In order to correct this, you'll need your Windows 95/98 CD. Then, follow the steps below:
  1. Click on Start
  2. Select Settings
  3. Click on Control Panel
  4. Double-Click Add/Remove Programs
  5. Click on the Windows Setup tab
  6. Scroll down until you find Multimedia
  7. Click on the word Multimedia (don't click on the check box to the left of Multimedia!)
  8. Multimedia should be highlighted
  9. Click on the Details button
  10. Make certain the check box next to Media Player is checked
  11. Scroll down until you find Video Compression
  12. Make certain the check box next to Video Compression is checked
  13. Click on the OK button to close the Multimedia window
  14. Click on the OK button to close the Add/Remove Programs window
  15. Follow the instructions on the screen (insert your Windows CD when prompted)
This will install the Windows components needed to play the .AVI file.
Pro Pilot installed, but when running the program, it freezes up and/or the video goes haywire.

This is most likely caused from using the 3Dfx.com Glide 2.54 BETA driver. See the Video Card / 3D Graphics FAQ for more information.
Is there a way to save certain preferences? Like startup city, auto-taxi, and the co-pilot settings?

The answer is YES! To do this, do the following:
  1. Go to the directory C:\SIERRA\ProPilot99\Flight\flights\USA (if you've installed Pro Pilot in the default location)
  2. Find the file named startup.flt
  3. Make a copy of this file (maybe named startup2.flt)
  4. Start Pro Pilot
  5. Make the changes you desire. (Startup city, auto-taxi, co-pilot settings.)
  6. Press Shift+F6
  7. Save the flight as startup.flt
The next time you start Pro Pilot, it should start with the settings you chose!
Can I customize/map the keyboard commands to my personal tastes?

Yes. The instructions to do this are located in the file

C:\SIERRA\ProPilot99\Accessories\keymap.txt (if you installed Pro Pilot using the default directory)

Can't find the file? You can also obtain it by Clicking Here.
