Once you have become sufficient at flying rotary-winged aircraft, downloading additional helicopters and related scenery will be the next step. Below are listed a number of additional helicopters you can search out from the various libraries; the majority are available right here at AVSIM, but I’ve included several helicopters from Hovercontrol as well. Simviation also has a number of excellent helo related add-ons, though most are duplicated in the AVSIM library (add-ons intended for FS2004 or FS2002). Due to the high number of available files, providing direct links wasn’t possible, but there is sufficient information for you to find them easily using AVSIM’s library “category” search feature.

Available add-on helicopters for FS2004!

These of course are not the only helicopters available for FS2004, but it is a majority of those you’ll find out there. Many of these also have several available repaints in addition to the original liveries. Where I’ve been able, I have included the name of the original author to assist you in your search.

Action Screenshots

The fun in learning to fly a helicopter is to make use of the helo’s unique flight qualities, namely the ability to hover and even fly backwards! Here are a number of screenshots showing the helicopter being used in a wide variety of applications, chasing a speedboat across Lake Victoria in Africa, hauling cargo from an off-shore drilling rig, or just flying with the ducks, the helicopter is fun and easy to learn to fly in FS2004.

Add-on Scenery Screenshots

Here are a few screenshots showing just some of the available scenery dedicated to the helicopter. Much of this scenery was downloaded from Hovercontrol, but a search in the AVSIM library will provide a great deal of dedicated helicopter scenery. Author names to search are: Steve Chase or Allen Richards. A lot of the add-on bush scenery includes a helipad, not to mention some of the major airport scenery add-ons as well.

In the end I want to thank the AVSIM library managers for having the dedicated library categories for helicopters, Jordan Moore and his website “Hovercontrol.com”, and particularly to all those authors of add-on scenery and the large number of add-on helicopters that have greatly added to my enjoyment of Flight Simulator!
