On Saturday, September 14th, at the AVSIM 2002 Simmer's Convention Banquet, Tom Allensworth, publisher, announced the creation of the Rich Harvey Scholarship. In the works for the last couple of months, Allensworth announced that a scholarship in honor of Rich would be established with Embry Riddle Flight Academy for aspiring pilots.

The announcement of the scholarship resulted in a standing ovation from the over 110 attendees to the banquet, and saw not too many dry eyes in the audience. Allensworth stated that the details of the scholarship, criteria and methods for donating would be announced in the coming weeks. Further, Allensworth stated; "The scholarship is intended to assist those individuals who have a love of aviation and wish to enter the profession. Our criteria for selection has not yet been finalized, but we do know that financial need and a proven desire to fly will be critical components of our selection criteria. I can think of no finer person than Rich to honor with this scholarship, and I look forward to the support of the community in making this a successful and long term commitment to both our hobby and the world of aviation that we so love."
