Ever wonder why you're a 'Brit', I'm an American, or he's an Italian? Farmer Joseph lives 1 mile from farmer Pierre. Joseph and Pierre don't talk much (any) to each other. They can't. They speak different languages. Joseph is a Spaniard, Pierre is a Frenchman. Confound it, (exactly) what has this to do with Flight Simulation? Well the 'confounding' of language is explained in the story of the Tower of Babel.

And now we get to the rest of the story,'whew'. Now for the first time there is a historical scenery in FS'dom. Babylon by Raad Hermes. It's historical, educational, and probably the most spectacular scenery you have ever seen in FS. The individual buildings, temples, and monuments are labeled!! It is truly spectacular and it will take you quite a while to take it all in. Best way to explore this scenery is to be handy with cyclic and collective. If that isn't an option, grab one of the FS line or fuel trucks and drive through, or slew through, whatever you do, do, don't just fly over it. You will miss something very special if you do. An easy 10 out of 5 jumpies, hehe, hey this is my review an I'm handin out the JUMPIES!! ...t'BOOM

Nope, nope, nope. Can't blame anyone for still runnin '98. FS2K is such a bugfest, and a CPU/RAM hog. It makes perfect sense to wait and upgrade and then get 2K, or just wait for the next version. So in the meantime yer runnin FS98 and wanting to 'purty' it up a bit. Well let me suggest this scenery by Rob Diebold. Walla Walla Washington, airport, city, and even two local colleges. You will find Martin Airport in nearby College Place. Much of the area is underlain with 'farmland' textures... nice.
It uses 'Airport 2xx textures and VOD version 3.0 textures, as do most sceneries these days. They render as well as any I've seen for 98'. It was kinda fun to return to '98 after quite a long absense. And this scenery
made it even better. Ok, I'm done, stop reading... go get it... hehe... t'BOOM

The 'who's who' of FS design above in the by line should suffice as a review, but there may be those in need of more information. So be it. Behold my new favorite airliner!! She's gorgeous. She's responsive to control input, but not overly so. Just right. And she is so sweet to fly!! Set a certain amount of bank and she holds it. And blessedly absent is the CHAOS usually associated with trim setting.
 |
A note from the author regarding this particular plane: "The aircraft depicted here, B727-247, N282WA, msn 21484, started life in July, 1978 with Western Airlines. Western was absorbed into the Delta System in 1987, where it continues in service today. It was recently repainted in Delta's new livery, a sign that the airline means to keep it in service for a while at least. This new livery is controversial, however to me (MV) it is quite attractive and thus worthy of the time spent to model it."
Well, what else is to be said. Many of the MASTERS of FS design have had a hand in this plane. Go get it, give her a shakedown flight. Bet ya walk away smilin... t'BOOM

Sheesh, what a week, new puter and all, ya know. Was gonna tell you how I had procrastinated in getting busy with my reviews. But I'll do that later. Right now I'll ask you to meet Simon Thomas. And I'll recommend that you download 'RAF Waddington'. This is his first effort at scenery building. And with a spectacular result!! Although I am personally unfamiliar with this base, and it is a real base. It is laid out so well that you immediately have a feeling of "being there." Combine this with all the dynamic activity and the total effect is quite staggering.
 |
Details, yas wants details! Ok There are 25 moving aircraft, most move more than once. And amazingly there is a schedule of dynamic activity, relating to dynamic scenery density settings you have on your machine. See the schedule in the zips docs. All of the dynamic stuff represents/reenacts 'Exersize Nomad 2000', an exercize involving 5 European Air Forces. A 'real' event! Making this another historical scenery for FS!! WOW it just keeps getting better and better... I can only imagine the time, toil, and trouble that went into this complex scenery. You know, those who can't do, review. Hehe, in my case that is absolutely true! So a huge KUDOS, and THANK YOU to Simon Thomas. Can't wait to see your next efforts... t'BOOM

class,... class,... CLAASS!... thank you. Today we are going to study what may be the EPITOME of how not to write a review. Note how first the writer...
JPFC is located 54 miles on a heading of 281 degrees from Juneau, Alaska. It has both land and water starts with the ground start being a gravel runway of 1700 feet. There are plenty of rooms to be had and the fishings' great, so come on up! Go in and see Johnny, tell him Don sent ya! Have fun!
...prints a part of the file documents. That is UNACCEPTABLE! The writer should greet the reader with his own words, using his personality to warm to the reader and interest the reader in the subject. Note also how the writer injects HUMOR into his review...
 |
Well you saw the invitation. Come on up see Johnny. Well I did, but Johnny wasn't too interested in who sent me. He was interested in who taught me to install scenery though, cause when I got there there was NO WATER. Makes for a heck of a fishing camp, eh?
Well class, humor has its place, BUT NOT in an FS scenery review!! Instead the reader wants Information, Details, and Reasons why he, or she, may want to download this scenery. Now class I want each of you to re-write this review CORRECTLY! Take the rest of the hour, you'll hand them in at the end of class.
ok, ok,... sorry Don! This is a fantastic 'bush' scenery. Water and land strip. Well away in the 'boonies'. Be sure and watch yer approach, and watch out for wild life too. When you get settled in be sure and set yer clock to night and pan around. Fantastic... t'BOOM
...hello, yes hi Tom,..er, uh..well you see it all started when I got here and there was no water!...yes..uhuh...ok, er, uh..PROBATION PERIOD?... ok Tom, I promise I'll never write another review like this,..ok.(.hehe.)...
