Introduction One might be wonder where is Bunker Hill AFB? Well Bunker Hill AFB is located in Peru, Indiana. In 1968 Bunker Hill was renamed to Grissom Air Reserve Base and renamed again in 2003 to Grissom Joint Air Reserve Base (IATA: GUS, ICAO: KGUS, FAA LID: GUS) This was done in honor of an astronaut who died earlier in 1967. This scenery may be welcome to simmers who are more interested in flying simulated military operations Installation and Documentation The installation wasn’t difficult. The instructions provided in the readme file states how to manually install all of the folders ( four of them in all ) by placing them into the FS9 main folder. It wouldn’t have hurt to have an exe file to do this installation automatically. This would definitely help those of us you are not as versed in installing sceneries. How does it look? The scenery looks very basic, almost of the type we are use to downloading online. The hangars and terminal buildings are also very basic but well designed. The hangars are open on both sides and are just big enough to house the jets that come along with this scenery package. The construction of the hangars, though basic, looks sturdy and the detailed textures used add a bit of realism to the overall structure. The Terminal buildings at first glance looks almost default but more detail and better quality could have been provided to enhance the surroundings. Static and AI aircrafts are a simple design but are clearly identifiable with clearly readable writings. Some of the aircrafts provided are the B-58's and KC-135Q. Night lighting isn’t extensive but it certainly is an improvement to the default lighting of this airport with taxiways, terminal buildings and parking spots well lit. The airport was laid out accurately with other buildings, silo type structures and generally fits in well to the surrounding scenery though there is still room for improvement in blending the textures provided with the default. Here are some photos provided of the scenery.
Eye Candy Well this scenery isn’t big on eye candy; The aircrafts provided with the scenery are both static and dynamic AI aircrafts. Also provided are ground vehicles which are static. Some of the effects in this scenery are afterburner effects which can be seen on the fighter jets that operate in and out of the airport. Performance…..Performance is always one of the most important aspects of any add-on scenery. My system is a Pentium 4 2.X processor with 128MB of video memory. It isn’t much but this product has no impact on frame rates what so ever. The AI aircrafts that come along with this scenery are not very details and thus uses very little PC memory. The buildings provided are almost of the same quality as the default terminals and also have no impact on performance.Summary / Closing RemarksIn summary, as stated before this scenery may be appealing to simmers who are mainly focused on flying military operations or others who enjoy flying into an AFB and desire seeing actual military aircrafts operating. Is it worth the cost? Well that largely depends on the prospective users and the flight simulator experience they desire. Overall it’s an ok package that we hope may be updated in terms of detail.
