Contributing to AVSIM Online
As a magazine and news source that is dedicated to representing the views of all simulation enthusiasts, we need and depend upon your input.
Contributions, in fact, are the "heartbeat" of AVSIM Online. There is so much happening in the simulation world that we can't possibly keep up, even if we did this full time! Your help is crucial to making AVSIM both responsive to the needs of our readers and to the timeliness of the information we present. Please contribute. Your reviews, opinion and experience with simulation programs, add-ons and utilities are crucial for all in our hobby.
Contributing:
Software Reviews: We will accept software reviews that are balanced and factual. Reviews should include the following information:
- Manufacturer
- Software Title
- Revision number, if any
- Date of issue
- Suggested retail price, or shareware/freeware status
- If not retail, where it can be found
- The basic requirements listed below
Panels, Scenery and Aircraft Reviews: Reviews must contain the following information. Authors are encouraged to provide reviews of their just released or soon to be released product.
- Author
- File Name
- Revision number, if any
- Date of issue
- Shareware, Freeware status
- Special restrictions or notices present
- Location in the form of a URL
- The basic requirements listed below
Software Utilities, function managers, etc.: Utilities reviewed must be germane to Flight Simulation or closely allied to its basic functionality. For example, a review of a generic graphics generation package would only be germane if the review includes some hints or instructions on usage by and for flight simulation. Reviews must include:
- Manufacturer or Author
- Software Title
- Revision Number, if any
- Date of Issue
- Shareware, Freeware or Commercial Status
- Special restrictions or notices that are included in the file or program
- If available on the net, its fully qualified URL in the form of
"http://www.xyz.com/abc.zip"
- The basic requirements listed below
Stories, Opinion, and Other Submissions: We will accept stories, opinion and other material related to flight simulation covering virtually any topic within that broad category. All submissions must meet the basic requirements outlined below.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS:
- All submissions must include the author's name and e-mail address. All articles published from the contributor will include their full name and an e-mail address where readers of the article can contact the author. Articles submitted that do not include these two requirements will not be considered for publication.
- All submissions must either be in standard ASCII text format or in Word for Windows format. Word version up to and including version 7.0 can be supported. (NOTE: Any article submitted that is in any other format may not be published. If we can find a converter, we will attempt to publish your submission, but if it isn't in the two recommended formats, there are no guarantees.)
- All submissions must be sent as an attached zip file to the e-mail address avsim@cstone.net. Files which are UUENCODED will not be processed.
TERMS, POLICIES AND DISCLAIMERS:
Submission of an article to AVSIM Online is tacit agreement to the following terms, policies and disclaimers:
- AVSIM Online and its publishers reserve the right to reject any submission for any reason.
- Notification of non-publication may or may not be provided.
- Authors submitting material for inclusion in AVSIM Online agree to protect and indemnify AVSIM, its publisher, editors and staff against any legal action resulting from material, opinion or comment included in their submission and which is subsequently published by AVSIM Online.
- The author or contributor shall not upload, post or otherwise make available any material protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right without the express permission of the owner of the copyright, trademark or other proprietary right and the burden of determining that any material is not protected by copyright rests with author or contributor.
- The author or contributor shall be solely liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of copyrights, proprietary rights, or any other harm resulting from such a submission.
- By submitting material, the author or contributor automatically grants, or warrants that the owner of such material has expressly granted AVSIM Online the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate and distribute such material (in whole or in part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media or technology now known or hereafter developed for the full term of any copyright that may exist in such material. The author or contributor also permits any other user to access, view, store or reproduce the material for that user's personal use.
- Articles which contain material which, in the sole discretion of the AVSIM Online staff, that is libelous, slanderous or not suitable for publication will not be published. The author or contributor agrees to abide by the decision of AVSIM Online staff in determining the suitability of submitted material for inclusion.
Finally, we do not pay for contributions or articles. Don't even ask. At present, all of us who contribute to bringing you AVSIM Online work for free and in our own time. If you would like to contribute, it must be with the understanding that you do so for the betterment of the community of simmers, and not for personal gain.
