The furure of Microsoft Flight?
steve_1979 replied to steve_1979's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
I'm really enjoying Flight so far and have been happy to pay for the first couple of add ons. I like the new gaming direction that it MS has taken with it and it seems to run much smoother and bug free than FSX does. I can understand why the hardcore sim fans prefer FSX but for me the 'Pilot wings' style missions are very enjoyable. There may be quite a few elements missing (weather and AI planes etc) but the game is only 1 month old and hopefully these will be addressed eventually and I'll be happy to pay for more add ons if the quality is good enough. For me it looks like Flight will probably be a successful replacement for FSX. +1 -
Hi everyone. It's been about a year since I've done any flight simming (apart from Wings of Prey) but Microsofts new sim 'Flight' has reawakened my interest in flight simming. So far I'm enjoying Flight a lot but there seems to be one major eliment missing for me - the weather. Is it likely that an add on weather engine such as REX or ASE will ever be available for Flight?

To Boing Skunk Works - All I can say is WOW just WOW!To everyone else - Lets see some more pictures, even if your room's a mess with empty beer cans and pizza boxes next to your PC it's still good to see where you do your simming.

Hi everyone.Just thought it would be really interesting to see what setups you guys are using for simming on. Whether you have a full scale replica of a real cockpit with multiple monitors and force feedback controls or an ancient PC with 15" CRT screen it'll be fun to see where you do your simming.I'll start the ball rolling with my PC and hopefully others will join in and post some more photos of their computers. (Sorry about the fuzzy pictures btw but I had to use a phone camera)

Mmmm. Sound s interesting, I think I'll give it a try.

I haven't tried MyTraffic so I cant do a comparison but I do have UT2 and I'm very happy with it.Lots more traffic that acts and looks more realistically and there is even a slight boost in FPS as a bonus! It's win win as far as I can tell. Give it a go.

The improvement may only be small but I still use it. As they say "every little helps."

I've been using Game Booster without any problems for a few weeks now after reading about it in last months PC Gamer magazine. On my home PC which is already well optimised thanks to Nick Needham's tuning guides it's only made a small improvment to the performance of FSX and other games. However, on my badly optimised PC at work it managed to free up almost half a gigs worth of services and makes a big difference to the frame rate in games.

considering a 15-760

I'm using an i5-750 running at 3.8GHz using a cheap Akasa Freedom Tower air cooler and FSX runs very smoothly at a constant 30FPS (locked) with very high graphics settings. Of course you would be able to get a little bit more with i7 but if your more interested in 'bang for your buck' you will be very happy with it. With FSX it works great, I'd guess you get about 90% of the performance for about 70% of the price. -
I already have FSX and other games working fine in 5.1 surround sound using the 3.5mm sockets and my current Logitech G51 speakers so I know that method definitely works ok.I've orded the Yamaha reciever and Q Acustic speakers this morning so I'll find out soon if I can connect it up just by using a S/PDIF cable. My motherboard has 'DTS Surround Sensation 5.1' and the Yamaha reciever has a DTS decoder so it may work.

I will try it with just the Optical S/PDIF first to see how it works but my motherboards onboard sound doesn't support Dolby Digital live encoding so I'm not sure if it will be able to provide proper 5.1 surround. If this is the case then I will need to buy a good sound card such as the Asus Xonar or Creative X-Fi at some point in the future. The reason I mentioned using three of the 3.5mm audio out sockets is because I play a lot of other games as well as FSX which use 5.1 surround sound. Doing it this will still effectively use the Yamaha as a simple 5 channel analog amplifier while my PC does all the sound processing. I know that this won't give the best quality sound possible but it will do as a temporary measure while I save up for a new sound card.

The UK government have recently passed the 'Digital Economy Bill' which will come into effect in a year from now. This bill has been rushed through without proper debate and is a quick and easy way to crack down on illegal downloaders. This gives them the right to automatically shutdown any websites that contain the slightest amount of illegal content or even a link (which can be posted by anyone) to illegal content. The bill will allow them to do this without warning! Is there any chance that this could affect AVSIM even though you're not UK based?
