Wiring Switches - EPIC TOPIC 1

Many folks struggle with the issue of understanding how to wire switches and so forth to the Epic card.
One might ask, "what kind of switches can be used?" Well just about any kind your heart desires. Toggle, momentary, rotary, etc. etc. You will later define the switch type in the programming file.

As far as wiring them to the Epic, its actually quite simple once you see the diagram below. In Epic Topic
12, we discussed how to connect the ribbon cables that accompanied your Epic hardware. Now its time
actually start wiring some switches. The Epic is setup in a matrix like platform. You have (8) different switch rows (SW) and 32 individual (Rows). The 32 Rows are devided into two sets of 16 and are defined as Module 1 and 2. Module 1 is physical wires 9-24, and Module 2 is 25-40.

A combination of 8 individual switches can be wired to any given Row. One lead from the switch goes to the SW section, the other wire to one of the 32 Rows. Now assumning your wiring 8 individual switches, you would take one wire from each switch, tie them togather, and route them to one of the 32 Rows. The other wire from each of the 8 switches, must go to individual SW's. In other words, any one switch in a group of 8, assigned to a given row, cannot share the same SW. I told you this matrix stuff was simple!

Below, the diagram should clear up any questions you have. The example diagram shows only 18 toggle switches and 2 rotaries wired.
