October 04 - David and I had the great pleasure to meet Mr. Aaron Higginbotham on Wednesday of last week. Aaron is a Boeing 727 First Officer for Delta Airlines and lives here near us. Aaron stopped by to check out the sim and to drop off an unbelievable amount of material on the Boeing 757. Aaron was recently promoted and will be training on the real 757 in November. We wish him luck. Rumor has it that he's going to sneak me to Atlanta with him so I can catch a cruise in the real 757 full motion sim. ......... Dream on Michael :) ALSO, new pictures added to the fun page. See them HERE(Link no longer active) September 25 - Peter Cos and Peter Dickenmann's cockpit projects added to "Others" page. September 23 - Added PFD page on the main menu. This page describes how we plan to implement the PFD software into our simulator. You can go there by clicking HERE(Link no longer active) September 20 - As of this date, our website is being hosted by AVSIM ONLINE. This was a very generous invitation from a well known group of people whom report daily the happenings in the flight simulation community. We are honored to have been asked and especially thank Mr. Jeff Babb of AVSIM. We would ask that everyone re-bookmark our new address to ( http://www.avsim.com/project757 ). September 14 - We have purchased Enrico Schiratti's awesome PFD software and will be incorporating it into our simulator in the next couple of months. Keith Dorsey, my contact at Boeing, has advised me that they will be offering the glass cockpit upgrade package in two versions of the 757 in the near future. So we may not be too far off track with implementing the PFD package in our sim. We have also begun constructing a new autopilot panel that will include real Spectrolux Com panels that came off a real 757/767 MCP. Additionally, there will be real LED digital displays within the unit to include, COM 1 & CRS, Speed, Heading, Vert Speed & Altitude, as well as Com 2 & CRS. The digital displays are amber in color and should really set off the new panel. We will have pictures of various stages of the construction very soon. Were also adding digital displays to two Spectrolux EFIS panels that we acquired from a real 757/767. The EFIS panels will also have the correct buttons which will allow us to change the various Map mode distances within PFD. Lets see, what else..... Oh
yes, we have purchased two of the new CH flight yokes and are making slight
modifications to them. The yokes we made were ok, but did not feel like
we wanted them to. The new ones have a nice feel to them and are spring
loaded to increase realism. August 31 - Noel Benford and Junji Hirayama's cockpit projects added to the "Others" page. August 26 - Hello again everyone. Project 757 made the news! Mr. Jack Hicks wrote a very nice article, one I think you'll enjoy. To get to the Post's page and read his article, CLICK HERE. We will have the picture that accompanied the article here soon. August 18 - Well we have two things to report today. Dave and I were interviewed by Mr. Jack Hicks of the Kentucky Post. He's doing an article on our project. I hope to post the article here when it prints. It was a pleasure meeting Mr. Hicks in person. I've been reading his articles for years. Just as exciting was the fact that Dave and I took our first flight ever in our new Boeing 757. The flight was fantastic. We left Orlando at approx. 10:00PM (sim time) and was at the gates in Atlanta in about an hour. Weather out of Orlando was crappy though. Overcast with a visibilty at 7 miles. When we arrived in Atlanta, it was even worse. Visibility was 4 miles. A true CAT3 approach was executed beutifully! We did experience a slight problem enroute though. Our flight plan which is displayed on the "Next Generation" HSI quit on us and we were never able to recover it. Thank goodness for ProFlight98 ATC which safely vectored us all the way to the airport! Another comment on the weather. If you use ProFlight98, you have got to try Larry Holcombs weather module. Thats what we use and its truly awesome. You just never know what the weather is going to be till you start the adventure. for those interested, there are several links to Larry's site throughout our site here. On another note, I hope to test this Fall for my REAL private pilots license. August 16 - Well folks, the inaugural flight day has arrived. Dave and I will be taking our maiden voyage on August 17, 1999. We are scheduled to depart KMCO, Orlando International, and arrive in KATL, The William B. Hartsfield International in Atlanta, Ga. After 3 years of building, we are anxious to take to the air. I will keep you posted as to how the flight turns out... July 27 - THE KING HAS COMETH.........The past weekend has been a total blast! My good friend, James Price, travelled all the way across the country from California to share his programming skills. In 2 1/2 days, I believe we slept only 5 hours. The remainder of the time was programming the simulator. Take a look at this latest PAGE and see what all James "Speedbrake" Price and I accomplished! July 16 - Added some NEW PICTURES(Link no longer active) with the projector on. July 14 - Well the addition is done and as promised, I have uploaded 4 NEW PICTURES depicting same. We are anticipating our first flight late next week. A good friend of mine, James Price (check out his sim by clicking on "OTHER" from main menu) is flying out here from California to help us with the final programming as well as to intoduce me to Peter Dowson's awesome EpicVXD software. My brother Dave is back in the hospital in ICU. Please remember him in your prayers. Thank you! July 12 - Just when you thought the constuction was done and......... Ok, shut it! :) Well any ways, I built a little addition onto the rear of the simulator. Actually I just lengthened the simulator. I added on 4 more ft to the rear in order to add a jump seat and a mount for our video camera so we can video tape some flights. It really adds to the everall look of the flight deck. I will have some pictures available tomorrow. Hey check out the "FUN" page I added showing my good friend James Price rummaging through old airliners pilfering parts for his awesome looking 737 project.... Looks like great fun! :) July 07 - I hope everyone here in the States had a great Independence Day! Yes folks, PROJECT 757 is nearing the finish line. We have been very busy lately putting in the finishing touches. To date, the construction phase is finished. We are currently working on the EPIC programming which should be finished very soon. I have uploaded several NEW PICTURES for your enjoyment. Some more good news - We have just acquired a new NEC projector for our "out the window" graphics display. It projects at a resolution of 1024X768! Awesome graphics. We also added a "FILM" button to the main menu. In the future, we will be video recording portions of our flights. These videos will be saved in AVI format and made available to you for your enjoyment. :) June 09 - A demo page as been added displaying our display graphics engine. A few shots taken coming in to Cleveland. View them HERE . (Link no longer active) Also Kev Saker has updated his 757 simulator networking in some new gauge displays. See them HERE.(Link no longer active) June 07 - We have upgraded the gauges we are using in our sim to more realistic functioning and looking ones. See them HERE. (Link no longer active) May 26 - Construction is just about completed on the simulator. There is some cosmetic work to be done but basically its finished. Alleluia! Now we can focus on completing the EPIC wiring, programming etc. We expect to take our first flight hopefully sometime in June if all goes well. Were still not sure from where the maiden voyage will take place but were kind of looking at possible ATL to DFW, or MCO to CVG. I have added six new pictures. If you would like to see, click here. May 10 - Dave's out of the hospital and doing better. Thanks to all of you who emailed us and expressed your thoughts. Well for the last 3 weeks, I have been making a new overhead panel to replace the one we had. The old one did not look very realistic and was modeled off of a triple 7. The new one is very realistic looking and is approximately 95% accurate of the real 757. For a short cut to the new pics, click here. Apr 17 - Sorry I have not updated in awhile. Dave has been
sick and is back in the hospital. I have conducted quite a bit of work on
the sim since the last update and I will get some new pics uploaded as soon
as possible. Mar 28 - New page added to Project area listing the most recent pictures. I uploaded 4 new ones showing some of the monitors lit up. Mar 26 - Ability to track real time flights added to Main Menu. Mar 25 - Well the projector has officially been sold to James Price. Mar 22 - More pics uploaded showing the First Officer's yoke built. See "Current" page. Mar 21 - As promised, I have uploaded a pic depicting Saturday & Sundays work. Check the "Current" page. Mar 20 - Well work as commenced once again. I spent most of today working on the yokes. I should have some good pictures of them sometime tomorrow night. Also, we may have found a buyer for our projector. It went out via FedEx air Wednesday bound for California. James Price is going to test drive it and let me know if he wishes to buy it. If so, we will be investing in our new one very soon. Mar 14 - Hopefully, after a week and a half off, I'll get back to cockpit building this week. My good friend Mark Janszen, a pilot with American Eagle, gave me a nice little package over the weekend. Three large color posters depicting the 757 main console, pedestal and overhead panel. His brother Jeff is a 757 pilot for USAir. Mar 10 - As you can see, we have changed our address. Hopefully this move will speed your access here. I know things are off center, but that will change I promise. Mar 03 - Two new pictures added showing Dave and I. See us here. Also "TECH" (Link no longer active) page and "HARDWARE" (Link no longer active) page completed. Mar 02 - I have begun explaining our hardware setup.
