  1. I built a new pc last week and was looking to play Flight Simulator X on high settings. Specs: MoBo: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming CPU: Intel Core i7 7700k GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 3G RAM: HyperX Fury 16 GB DIMM DDR4-2666 2 x 8 GB SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB CPU is liquid cooled by a Corsair H55 and the case has 6 extra fans excluding the GPU and power supply fans. I cranked all settings in FSX to maximum and created myself a 'worst case scenario' (creating all the situations that would require the most of my system) and got 14-22 fps. I decided to increase the clock rate from 4.2 GHz to 5.0 GHz and tweaked the fsx config file and created the same scenario in-game, but got exactly the same amount of fps. I've made the following enhancements to the config file: [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=84 [bufferpools] Poolsize=39000000 [GRAPHICS] HIGHMEMFIX=1 [Display] WideViewAspect=True TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.15 HideInfoText=1 [sCENERY] SmallPartRejectRadius=3.0 Of course there are settings to decrease but overclocking the pc should help increase the fps, so I'm trying to test this using the same scenario at all times. When it helps, I'll tweak my FSX settings to get exactly the performance I want. I was hoping someone on this forum could help me out. Thanks in advance.
  2. I set VCore manually in BIOS but get the following measurements (motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR): BIOS = 1.356V CPU-Z = 1.328V HWMonitor = 1.33V (1.28V min, 1.33V max) Why is there a difference? Which value should I trust? The recommended VCore max for my Q9650 is 1.3625V which is the next notch on the list of VCore's in BIOS and I don't want to go over this value (yes I know that some people happily run their Q2Q at 1.4somethingV but I don't!). Of course if the real VCore is 1.33V when my BIOS says 1.35V then perhaps I can go a few notches above 1.3625V in the list. Thanks in advance for your replies.
  3. Dear Simmers, I've been reading a lot of information regarding tips and tricks to get the most out of FSX. To be honest it gets very confusing as there's too many opinions differing from each other. I recently got a very nice built but it seems my specs aren't enough to get the most out of FSX without doing additional tweaking or tuning. My CPU: - PROCESSOR:Intel Core i7-990X BX80613I7990X Processor Extreme Edition - Six Core, 12MB L3 Cache, 1.5MB L2 Cache, 3.46 GHz (3.73 GHz Max Turbo). - MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE G1.Assassin Intel X58 Motherboard - ATX, Socket B (LGA1366), Intel X58 Chipset, 2200MHz DDR3, SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 7.1-CH Audio, CrossFireX/SLI Ready, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0. - VIDEO CARDS: 2 (two) GTX-570, 2.5 GB each. - MEMORY: 12GB, DDR3, 2000 MHZ. - HARD DRIVE: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6G. - Windows 7, 64 Bits Now the question is, which of the following tips should I follow to get the most out of FSX based on the above specifications. As previously mentioned, there are too many opinions and maybe some of the ones I read are out of date. 1.- Bojote's Tweak Vs. Buying Xtreme FSX PC V2: Is Bojote's tweak enough for boosting performance? Is it worth spending money on Xtreme FSX? Which one will give more FPS´s? 2.- Downloading Shader Model 3 from Bojote Vs. Buying Mogwaisoft Shade: Do I need both? Is there any difference between them? What is the purpose of the shader? Will I get more FPS? 3.- Overclocking the CPU: Will I really boost performance by overclocking the CPU up to 4.5GHZ. Will the CPU get overheated? Is this really necessarily? 4.- Disk Defrag: I've heard of the O&O Defrag. Some say is good, some say is useless. Would any defrag work? Should I defrag the whole dics or just FSX's folder? 5.- FPS Limiter 0.2: Can someone please explain what is this? Will this limit the FPS outside the FSX? Should I set the FPS in the FSX to "unlimited"? 6.- NVIDIA Inspector:What is it with this tool? I really don't understand the following statement (taken out of this forum): " Make your CPU do all the work that it can. Use "Nvidia Inspector" for AA settings ..ect NOT FSX. Turn off AA in FSX and drop Filtering to Trilinear." I'm really not an expert in this topics. Even though I've been using FS for more than 15 years, I've never tweaked nor tuned anything in the program. I just thought that by buying a computer with such specs would make the simulator run completely smooth, but with my add ons and graphic settings sometimes the FPS comes down to 10 (which is unacceptable for the money I spent). Please help me on this. Thanks
  4. Hello I'm running FSX, thinking if it's possible to get those nice FPS with the PMDG 737 with complex scenery add-on? I think overclocking may help me here. My rig: CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k (New cooler needed, i know) MB: Gigabyte P67A UD4 B3 Ram: 8 Gb G.skill Trident DDR3 1600Mhz (8-8-8-24) GPU: XFX Radeon HD7770 1GB GDDR-5 Dual fan PSU: Corsair 450VX Psu Case: Cooler Master Silencio 650 My i7 is running up to 3.8 at stock speeds, but will overclocking close to 5 ghz improve my FPS much? Guldager
  5. I see the water cooler I am looking at for my new build has pre-applied thermal paste. (Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX CPU Cooler) Is this ok for good overclocking, or should it be removed and another paste applied? Thanks, Don
  6. Hey! I've overclocked my i7 4790k from 4.3 to 4.7GHz, but when I run fsx I only got relatively small gains. (4-5 fps increase) Is there anything I'm missing, like RAM? Or is that just the sort of gains overclockers get on average? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
  7. I got a problem. After a week of selecting al the different parts I need for my custom fsx pc. I find out that the haf x being 15cm to heigh for being placed under my cockpit. Does anybody know a case with a maximum height of 45 cm and that has outstanding air flows and wil fit the corsair h110. I want to overclock my i7 4470 so I need good cooling. This is my setup: Cooler Master HAF-X 1000 Watt power supply Intel Core i7 4770K 3.5 GHz (OC to 4.5 GHZ or more) ASUS Maximus VI Hero (Intel Z87) SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0 ASUS Nvidia GTX 780 Corsair H110 Dominator® Platinum with Corsair Link Connector — 1.65V 16GB Dual/Quad Channel DDR3 (CMD16GX3M4A2400C9) SSD Samsung 840 Evo 250GB (for windows 7 64bit ultimate, I got the ultimate for the langauge options in fs2crew) SSD Samsung 840 Evo 500GB (for fsx and other addons and scenerie Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit Anybody some suggestions? Thanks
  8. I was just reading a thread on when to Overclock, and it got me thinking who has more stability issues with our sims, those who Overclock, those who don't, or does it matter? I don't OC because I can't I have a Dell system which doesn't allow me to. In return though my FSX installation has been stable since installation in 2007 (It's a E6850 3Ghz C2D system). Other than OOM's from using addons that eat VAS, which is a totally differnt issue not related to this question, my system has been rock solid. So I'm curious what others experiences are and if there may be any correlation where OCing may have played a role. So other then OOMing, consider stability, in terms of unexplained CTD's, Graphic anomalies or any other unexplained problem you are having with each Sim (Do not count Frame Rate Issues). I'm going to include FS2004, FSX, P3D, XP10. Thanks
  9. I recently got into flight simming, purchased FSX, and quickly realized how demanding it can be on your machine, especially once you start collecting addons. I have an OK system but it's nothing spectacular, and I'm feeling the strain on my framerate every time I play. :-/ From what I've read so, FSX needs good ol' fashioned CPU power rather than a blazing fast video card to help with performance . And it seem that lots of people in the forum who are overclocking, which is something which I know little about at this point ... so little that I'm not even sure if it's possible with pre-built computers. Here's info on my setup: Hewlett Packard Pavilion p7-1446 / Windows 8 / AMD A10-5700 @ 3.4 GHz / 8 GB DDR3 / 4 cores (specs from HP about this model: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03500676&lc=en#N90) GPU: Radeon R7-260x / 2 GB / DDR5 @ 1600 MHz Addons: Orbx's FTX Global Base, FTX Global Vector, Ideal Flight 10, plus a traffic addon (to be determined soon) So I guess the question is whether it's possible to overclock a prebuilt computer in the first place. And if it is, do you think it will even be worth trying considering the basic hardware I have? (And btw, I know there's a whole world of improvements I can make by tweaking my config file, but as you can probably tell I'm a newbie and I figured I might as well get my hardware running as best as it can before I start tweaking.) Thanks for the input!
  10. I have a Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI M-ITX Motherboard (about a year old) which the BIOS says is running with a mutiplier of 40. I am recommended to raise this to 42 without risk - though later I may take a serious look at overclocking. I was recommended to use Easytune (it was supplied with the PC). But when I run it the multiplier is changing all the time - I saw it go down to 8 and upto 32 - so clearly something is up and I need to find out before I go trying to change it. I see elsewhere people recommending only using the BIOS to set-up the clock multiplier and voltages. But if this value is actually changing, should I be setting a fixed value in there? Sorry if I sound a bit 'green' but I am, so treat me gently! Thanks Nigel
  11. I just upgraded my system, and I have now i7 2700K which run's a little bit above 4GHz by default, stock speed(I set max performance in BIOS and verified with z-cpu, it's stay above 4GHz on idle). Fsx run smoothly at max settings, I have some stutters only arround big payware airports. I was wondering, should i overclock my cpu and what will be the real benefits from OC to 4.8GHz for example vs my 4GHz right now? Can I eliminate stutters maybe, or get more smoothly fsx? My system: mainboard - ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 CPU - Intel Core i7-2700K CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D14 GPU - MSI N560GTX-TI TWIN FROZR II 2GD5/OC, 2GB GDDR5, PCI-Express Memory - 8GB-Kit G.Skill Ares PC3-12800U CL8-8-8-24 Power Supply - Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 I have 2 SSD at 600 MBps, one for windows, and second for FSX. I think it would be shame not to do some overclock, but I was surprized how good is 2700K at stock speed, and I don't want to do OC without any real benefits from that. I didn't have good PC until now, and I want just to verify before OC. Thanks
