Help With TerraModels Software
This FAQ is for those that are having problems using the TerraModels software.

Solutions
This error occurs when Fly2
is trying to display an object that has exceeded the maximum number of allowed
vertices. This ‘limit’ is not currently
know. This error does not occur because
you have too many objects in your scenery.
You can use Terramodels to find objects with a large amount of vertices. To do this, open the “Object Information”
window by pressing the button marked “2D”.
Then, select each object and note the “Max Vertices” value in the
“Object Information” window. Break
large objects into smaller ones. The
most likely culprits are subdivision objects and groups of trees.

Looking Background After USGS Download
If the USGS download is
successful, but the background looks like rough-textured gray pattern, then
there is not a satellite image available for the requested area. You will then have to provide your own
background (“Non-USGS Mode”), or start a project without one (“No Image” mode).
Arrows
do not show up in the taxiway sign generator.
Instead, I get funny bracket characters.
Most likely, you did not
install the TM2.TTF font correctly.
Also, make sure that you have Patch#3 or later installed.
In
some of my windows, the graphics do not look positioned correctly.
TerraModels
prefers windows to be run using “Small Fonts”, which is the standard
setting. The Large font setting will
work, but may give strange results.
Machine
hangs during USGS image downloads
Microsoft’s Terraserver
is probably down. Try again later. You can also test the connection by loading
the “COMMAND.HTML” file, from the TM2 directory, into your browser. When an image is displayed in your browser,
then the Terraserver site is back online.
When I try to fly in my newly generated scenery area, I get
“object not found” errors.
Perhaps you
removed the object file (SMF) from the disk, but the reference is still in the FLY2
scenery data files (i.e. FLY2\DATA\Dxxxxxx).
The rotation of all the objects in my scenery appears to be off by a
few degrees.
You can apply
an “Airport Correction Value”. See the
“Edit” menu reference in the TerraModels User’s Guide.
I have 2 buildings joined together in TerraModels, but they are
separated by several feet in Fly2.
There appears
to be a problem with the consistency of the Fly2 coordinate system in different
parts of the world. Europe is
particularly noticeable. However, the
problem should be consistent for a particular airport scenery. Therefore, you can adjust it by overlapping
the models, in TerraModels, by a few pixels.
I
want to place some “Stock TerraModels Objects”, but do not see any in the list.
The TM.MLF file
is not present in the TM2 directory.
Some
of my objects are too small to select.
You can select
them from the “Precision Alignment Tool” window. Also, make sure you have “Enhance Small Objects” checked in the
Terramodels “View” menu.
Objects
that I positioned using the Fly2 Editor, do not show up in Terramodels.
This is
true. The scenery files (in the FLY2 DATA directory) must be of a
special format to work with TerraModels.
However, you can use the Fly2 Scenery Editor to move your objects and still
access them later from TerraModels.
Some of my objects are not selectable. They are just white lines.
This could be one of several things:
o
The object dimensions could not be computed because the
Terramodels Texture Pack could not be located.
o
The object dimensions could not be computed because the path
to the Fly2 software is incorrect.
o
The object has been deleted from the FLY2\MODELS folder.
o
The object dimensions are too small for the current scale,
and the “Enhance Small Objects” option is not checked in the “Objects” menu.
When is the Mac
version coming out ?
Unfortunately, probably never.
I have no experience, nor any development environment to create a
version for the Mac.
