The End of Flight?

Recommended Posts

Might as well go ahead and buy Alaska and the deluxe Cub as they're very good. But wait until it's on deep sale on Steam. Probably get the entire package for $10 by Christmas.

This is the first thing I was afraid of when Delafina announced she was leaving for another project. You don't jump off the space shuttle during a launch to go fly a Baron for someone else.

And I was really enjoying Flight and looking forward to good things to come

<sigh>

Weren't we at this party before??? I blame the lead developer of Flight (forgot his name)... When you know how fickle Microsoft management can be it would be to your best interest to make a complete sim and get it over with before the plug is pulled. The whole piece meal concept with the assumption Microsoft will wait around for you to see your whole vision through is short sighted to say the least. Now we have an outstanding unfinished effort that's shelved. At least we have what we have. I can enjoy Flight for quite some time with Alaska in the mix.

true, Alaska and Hawaii were awesome! but the party is over and Elvis has left the building

Well. It was always a possibility. We saw again and again that there seemed to be a lack of direction in the whole enterprise, and Delafina suddenly jumping ship gave me pause. Still, I was hoping against hope that something with such a bright possible future would be given a chance to flourish, even as I saw the corrosive reaction of the community almost as a concerted effort to kill the project.

I layed out some financial realities in the "Big Cub" thread.

Many will breathe a sigh of relief over this, as a restoration of a comfortable status quo. But to me it means the end of any chance, for years and years to come (if ever) of any big player entering the civilian market. So sad, if true. I will likely be abandoning simming after this. Not only Elvis will be leaving the building.

Oh, sure. I'll get my money's worth out if it, certainly... but what a disappointment that it will not be what it could easily have become with proper allocation of resources and some quality leadership.

Ah man, I come from enjoying the VC cub to this news. Makes me kind of wish I wouldn't have bought it, but I wasn't going to use my MS points on anything else so oh well...RIP Flight. I guess recently buying addons for FSX that give it new life wasn't such a bad idea. No more $ for MS, win8 can kiss it.

It's unfortunate that it came to this, but I hope that the outspoken proponents of Flight will able to handle this with the grace, poise, and most importantly - silence, that was demanded of those members of our community who felt abandoned by Flight.

Well that makes everyone's debating a moot point now ;)

As Robert de Niro said in the last line of "Casino", sitting behind his big desk, hands folded: "...and that's that."

Sh** meets fan. The timing of this is a double blow to us all. "Ow good! Finally an aircraft with a VC!" and then "The End".

Im not going to talk about this, as im still under NDA for the next 5 years or so, but the team truly did the best they could, with what they were given. What Flight did, it did very well. Sorry.

The outspoken proponents of Flight didn't have an overriding sense of entitlement. I think we can handle the disappointment well enough.

That was clear. What they were permitted to do was very impressive, for what little it was.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We are better off without MS in the Flight Simming game. I know it's going to take people some getting used to but we really need a company that is focused on providing a quality product in this area and not simply looking for another cash cow which was all the FS franchise really was to Microsoft.

I think we can all look forward to what Laminar Research and Lockheed Martin have in store with Xplane and P3D. There are two groups who have the backing to get the job done in a quality way.

Still it's too bad because flight was a very nicely optimized mini-version of FS. Would that they had made FSX to the same level of quality.

Indeed. Not everyone throws tantrums when we don't get what we want.

I haven't seems anything in xplane or p3d that comes close to the potential Flight had. That's what disappoints me the most, so much potential just waiting for some decent management.
