Custom Scenery missing in 10.25 or perhaps after V2 Mesh install?

The only problem which I see with this approach is, that when you run the X-Plane Updater, it might do some unexpected things. For example create "Global Airports" again, and re-download all the content and put it in there .. .and you would end up with two "Global Airports" .... Thats why I would highly recommend to rather do the "abstract" scenery_packs.ini editing approach (that way you don't need to "mess" with folder names).

Your exactly right renaiming the folder to something like ZZA_Global_AIrports and running the updater will cause the original "Global Airports" to be reinstalled.

The lack of current user control by LR is really putting me off right now.  That coupled with the grainy poor resolution ground textures they are currently using is a big step back IMO.  I still can't figure out what happened to my scenery I use to have I'd say a good third of what you see below doesn't show up in the sim anymore.  Frustrating

Yes, that's right, Global Airports will be re-installed after each update.

 

But as proritizing scenery based on folder names was the standard approach of scenery handling, and so far I am not aware of any official statement that users HAVE to use the .ini file instead, I consider this "old" approach still a valid solution -- for users who know what they are doing.

What are these?

 

Are these airports? Or some other type of scenery? If this is photo scenery or OSM scenery, their priority should be lower than the airports and higher than the HD mesh.

Those are just airport scenery by Theo Davis "Ted's Scenery". I don't use photoscenery or OSM. I'm not fond of Ted's naming convention, I typically rename any title I download using the ICAO code to make it simpler to search for duplicates etc. However in the case of those files I just left them alone.

I'm with you Mario, it would be too easy after an update to copy the contents of the "Global Airports" folder into the renamed folder (in my case SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/ZAA_Global Airports/ ) and then delete the global airports folder completly until the next update; that whole process should take less than a couple of minutes max.

 

It still doesn't explain why certain scenery isn't populating?  Can you check any of the airports listed in Post #7 above on your system and see if they will display properly?  I downloaded them from the .org If you search just using the IACO code they should come right up.  I even pulled the "global airports" folder clear out of my Custom scenery directory and rebuilt the .ini file to see if they would show but no luck.

By the way .... do you see any signs of the scenery getting loaded in the log.txt(!) when you start at the given location? Usually, you should see at least some folder accessed in the log ...

Hmmm ... this doesn't looks like, as if X-Plane was loading anything like KELN. Thats not a good sign. Are you sure, that in the KELN folder, your directory structure is ok?

 

Ahh, and one more thing - I did forget to mention it anywhere. If you want the KSEA area at HD Mesh quality, then you have to move the Demo area "/KSEA Demo Terrain" BELOW(!) the HD Mesh (otherwise you get default quality mesh in that small area)! I don't think, this is making the mess with KELN ... but it might be ...

Looking at the file structure seems to have solved the mystery. As stated above I tent to like to rename folders in my custom scenery file to coincide with the Airports IACO Code.  It looks like when I did this I created the problem by unzipping downloaded scenery directly to those renamed folders.  The author of this airport (and most likely the others) had all of the earth nava data etc. contained in their own folder.  By unzipping directly into the folder I created  I inadvertantly  made the authors folder a sub folder which prevented the scenery from being loaded.  Hope my mistake can prevent others from making the same... :blush:
