fmc dep and arr

Recommended Posts

Hi can someone explain something to me. when I go into the fmc, say at Punta Raisi in Palermo, to choose a landing runway I get a choice or say ils20x, or ils20y or ils20z. I want to know exactly what this means. I have found this at other airports too and have been unable to get an explanation. x y and z must have a logical explanation, also which one should I choose or does it not matter.

thanks. LaurenceT

The suffix ID is simply a notice that the approach is slightly different. This is more common with RNAV approaches now, as ILS approaches tend to be very fixed, but you can obviously still see examples with ILS.

In your case, if you were to compare the charts, you'd see minor differences in the altitudes or fixes bringing you up to the ILS (or in some cases, the ILS would use a different array).
