Sending flightplan with german chars in filename does'nt work

Recommended Posts

Hi Maarten,

i selected a flightplan with german characters in filename: 'EGKK - LEPA f. CLS Übungsflug.pln'. The message line in P3D looks like this:

g2t667fh.jpg

and nothing happens. When i rename the pln file into a name without german chars everything works like aspected.

Cheers, Walter.

Hi Walter,

I don't know if it will help, but in the next version of SLX the flight/flight plan names are converted to Windows code page 1252 first before they are sent over to P3D. P3D (and most likely FSX as well) uses code page 1252 and does not support Unicode characters. You could also try the following (from the P3D forum):

Type in Windows Search (WINDOWS KEY + START TYPING)-> "Region and Language" -> Open this settings screen -> Navigate to "Administrative" (Tab) -> Look for "Languages for non-Unicode programs" groupbox -> "Change system locale" (button) -> "English (United States)" -> Hit Ok -> Apply

If that does not work and if the next version of SLX does not help either, I'm afraid you cannot send flights and flight plans that contain German characters from SLX to P3D.

thanks, Maarten

Hi Maarten,

would'nt it be more universal (and easy to code for you) to create a temporary file and send it to the sim, rather than changing the system settings? EFB e.g. creates a file called 'EFB_current_garmin.pln'.

Cheers, Walter.

Hi Maarten,

now the function is completely broken. You can't load any flightplan into the sim:

'20160504100415 Fatal error "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Prepar3D v3 Files\EFB_current_garmin'.
File name: 'C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Prepar3D v3 Files\EFB_current_garmin'
   at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)'

I think, you have forgotten the file extension.

Cheers, Walter.

Hi Walter,

I found the mistake and will release a new version later this evening. I changed the update mechanism, so hopefully it works as intended.

thanks, Maarten

Hi Maarten,

the messageline in the sim is still as ugly as seen in my startpost, but now everything works.

Thanks, Walter.

Hi Walter,

The message on top of the simulator window still displays the original file name. I will convert that to code page 1252 in the next version. Hopefully that will make it more readable.

thanks, Maarten

Hi Maarten,

there are no visible changes in the message line.

But now on every launch of SLX it detects 273 new aircraft types (my AI traffic):

20160506095343 Active pane: xFlightPlansPane
20160506095352 "
273 new aircraft types found:
D:\FluSi\P3Dv3 AddOns\Sceneries\02 - Traffic\MyTraffic\Aircraft\A10MX\aircraft.cfg
D:\FluSi\P3Dv3 AddOns\Simobjects\WOAI Airplanes\UGA_HTAI Gulfstream3 Part1\aircraft.cfg

... here follows about 6000 lines with aircrafts and variations

Nr of non-AI aircraft types:      52
Nr of AI aircraft types:         290
Nr of aircraft variations:      5589
"

Cheers, Walter.

Hi Walter,

I finally found the cause of the message line issue: it was a bug in the so called 'Beatles blog' managed SimConnect client. It converted every string back to UTF-8 before sending it to the simulator. I have fixed that now.

As for the 'new aircraft found on startup' issue: please send me the complete log file and your %programdata%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\simobjects.cfg file.

thanks, Maarten

Hi Walter,

As far as I understood, both issues (German characters in the message line and 'new aircraft detected') are solved now. Let me know if my assumption is not correct.

thanks, Maarten
