Uber In The Air

Recommended Posts

Preflight, setting switches, inputting flight data, take off, set autopilot.

Get into your personal automobile, after unplugging it from the mains. Tell the "Uber like" computer to take you to work but for fun add in the local Dunkin Doughnuts.

The airplane is fully automated, the automobile is close behind. Boring.....

Perhaps why that weekend in a rented old-fashioned sports car is so much fun. Or, taking the old biplane for a spin over Iowa farms is such a pleasure.

regards,

Dick near Pittsburgh, USA

Flightsimming can be as boring as you make it... ;) It is up to you to keep it interesting. That's why I frequently change my way of doing things. Currently I am only flying the Cherokee using VOR for navigation. Totally different world than the workflow you described and a lot more fun. ;)

I fly GA, so the flights are shorter, but I hand fly everything, and very often fly VFR using dead reckoning and pilotage just for this reason. I'm a lot more engaged when I'm not following the magenta line. And as a student pilot, I think it's good practice. Works for me.

By its very nature, aviation is 99% boredom and 1% terror.  However, flight simulation has so many aspects to dive into and be immersed that i am never board.  Tired of flying?  Try learning how to design your own terminal building and create your own airports.  Learn about long range planning and ETOPS. Fly over a county like xxxxxstan and look it up in Wikipedia.  The list is almost endless.

You are all so boring !

Me, I'm always viewing exciting things like the FR counter, or the exciting flickering of my autogen in the distance, or the speed at which the trees grow upwards on my approach. :P

There's always something exciting about a few extra frames/sec....

Regards

Bill

LOL BIll!

I like flying heavy metal - just watching the scenery rolling by whilst the freeware cloud software (FSOpen Clouds) interprets real world METARs. I also fly smaller planes (P180 Avanti), faster planes (SAAB Viggen, XB-70 Valkyrie) - I've broken more aviation rules on the sim with those 2 aircraft to ban me from flying for life if not incarcerate me for some considerable time IRL (if I could fly either and the XB was airworthy ;) ). I've flown GA VFR using VOR radials (WT9- Dynamic).

I used to watch the FP counter, but ignore it now because my setup flies quite smoothly thank you.

When I get bored with the frame counter I pass the time watching the VAS counter. You know, for variety!

Honestly, though, I find that flying with the VFR charts makes it all a lot more interesting, especially for watching the scenery. You can do this for free if you load up SkyVector on a tablet or nearby laptop.

I love a bit of 'old school' nav myself every so often

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.
