I
am increasingly being drawn to flying in Greece. The weather is usually nice.
And especially flying over the islands is an
extra challenge for navigating. With the excellent freeware add-ons from our
Greek FS2000
friends (both mesh and all airfields) it makes VFR flying a real treat out
there.
For this flight I decided to take a fast aircraft. Both for reasons of time ( I
wanted to check out some new area quickly) and
because I found this beautiful little gem of an Aero L39 Albatros training jet.
Both the aircraft (by Milan Lisner and Jiri Masnik) and the Greek scenery (by
Babis Peribolas and Kyprianos Biris) made
this a terrific flight.
For this flight I took of from Ikaria. That is the place Icarus took off too. I
think the story was that he wanted to be as high up
in the skies as the gods.... unfortunately he glued his wings to his back using
wax.. and when he got too close
to the sun, the wax melted and he fell in the Aegean Sea (Kyprianos, correct me
if I'm wrong !).
I used the L39 and the wings were firmly bolted on, so no surprised to be
expected there ! My final target was Syros,
but I was curious to see the islands of Naxos and Paros as well. So I devised a
route with some detours.
The first target was Mikonos, using the Mokonos VOR. From there I planned my
route visual to Paros, then back to Naxos,
and then crossing my own flight path again for the last leg to Syros.
Weather was nice (using FSMeteo), and so were the plane and the beautiful views.
Hope you like it too... Francois.
