Atlantic (ATL) Basin Operations Center: San Juan, Puerto Rico - Chief Operations Center (Operational)
From the fully self-sustained WHI headquarters outside San Juan, the WHI management team handles the worldwide operations of the airline. The bunker headquarters is also home of the state-of-the-art WHI Meteorological Department featuring the Smith-Thomas Atmospheric Studies Super-Computing Center. This center, coordinating with national and military meteorological services in client countries, handles the development of all meteorological products and the tasking of WHI missions. The WHI Training Academy and the WHI Research Division, developer of the TFCSS are also housed here. The bunker site can remain in operation for up to 60 days without outside utilities or support. Aircraft are based at the WHI Hangar Complex at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan. The aircraft support a host of missions, primarily the Atlantic Hurricane Season. The Atlantic Season accounts for 12% of tropical cyclones each year and runs from June 1 until November 30.
