Indian Ocean Basin Operations Center (IND): Diego Garcia (West of 90E) [North Indian Ocean (NIO); and Southwest Indian Ocean (SWI)]
The Diego Garcia Operations Center is based at the large U.S. military base located on the Maldive Islands. The Northern and Southern Indian Ocean basin each produce about 12% of annual cyclones. It has taken months of bargaining with the authorities to allow a commercial venture onto the heavily guarded islands. However, since WHI operations in the area will produce data the US Air Force would have had to garner itself, the cooperation finally garnered approval. This cooperation also means WHI aircraft will be tracked by USAF airborne recon platforms, especially when near hostile territory. (Bangkok, Thailand; Port Louis, Mauritius; Durban, South Africa)
