The San Diego Center, based at the Mirimar MCAS, is used to monitor the Northeast Pacific Hurricane Season, which runs from May 15 until November 30. The Central Pacific Season occurs during a similar time frame, although it is not uncommon for cyclones to form year-round in the more western fringes of this region. About 15% of tropical cyclones form in this region each year. In addition, this center is the primary operations center for the United States winter season. Winter recon activities run roughly from November 1 until March 30. (Acapulco, Mexico; Seattle, Washington; Kodiak, Alaska)
