The vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean calls for the placement of multiple operations centers to allow adequate coverage. The central and western North Pacific accounts for 30% of all cyclones each year The Central Pacific Season involves areas north of the Pacific Intertropical Convergence Zone, between 140W and International Date Line to the Asian continent. The season runs year-round, with most of the activity between July and November. Guam does lie in a major cyclone region, but still provides the best site for an operations center.
