Here's where you'll find all the action: Mission Assignments, Basin Center Activities, PIREP submittal, and Pilot Rosters
Once again, due to the unique nature of WHI operations, it is impossible to have a set of regular "lines" or routes as normal virtual airlines do. At WHI, we are truly at the mercy of Mother Nature. When she calls and where she calls, is where we go.
Flight Tasking
Obviously, WHI flight tasking orders need to be different from those at other virtual airlines. Flight needs identified by the Meteorological Division are used to create a list of missions on the WHI web site for each operational BOC or MSA. In some instances, specific flight times may be required. If not noted, the target is valid for investigation as long as the mission is noted on the web site. Note: For the present, go to the Active Missions page and select one or more missions from the list available for your BOC and pilot certification.
Flight Reporting
The flight report must be filed using the PIREP page on the WHI web site. To qualify for Hazardous Duty Compensation, the pilot must submit a data set from the mission. The acquisition of the data set and transmission requirements are outlined on the web site.
Minimum Flying Time
The WHI pilot must complete a minimum of 20 flights per year, with an average of two flights per month each quarter. Each pilot qualifies for a one-month vacation each calendar year. The vacation period cannot be sub-divided into smaller periods. The pilot should notify WHI headquarters if he wishes to take a vacation. The Chief Flight/Meteorological Officer or Deputy Flight/Meteorological Officers may grant additional leave upon request. There is no maximum number of flights allowed per month, though only one flight is allowed per specific mission.
Special Projects
Any WHI pilot holding the rank of Captain or higher may submit a proposal for a special project. The proposal should outline the specific area of meteorological study the project will examine, geographical scope of the project, the project period and WHI assets required. The first special project shall be completed solo by the research pilot. Following successful completion of this first project, the research pilot may propose projects requiring additional manpower. Project approval requires the unanimous approval of the Chief Flight/Meteorological Officer and Deputy Flight/Meteorological Officers.
Special Project Completion Report
The WHI research pilot must submit a written report upon completion of the project. This report should outline the goals of the project and how they were satisfied, the conclusion drawn from the research, a description of each project mission and a briefing for all pilots on the study outcome. Once the project is deemed a success by the Chief Flight/Meteorological Officer and Deputy Flight/Meteorological Officers, the research pilot will receive credit for all hours flown and a 10-hour bonus.
Summary
The Weather Hunters International virtual airline provides a unique opportunity for the person with a keen interest in flight simulation and weather phenomenon. While progressing through the ranks, a pilot will learn to fly different aircraft in a variety of weather settings and increase their meteorological knowledge at the same time. If you have any further questions, refer to the WHI web site or feel free to contact any member of the management team.
