The Senior Captain gains access to the C-130 Hercules for all of their flights. The Hercules and associated documentation can be downloaded by clicking here . The missions are listed by category. You will find the Mission ID, a brief Mission Description and other pertinent information. Please read the note at the top of the Mission Category before proceeding as it will contain information specific to that category. You will also find a handy link below each category for filing PIREPs after the flight. While use of 1X time is recommended, use of up to 4X is allowed if needed. The missions do not have to be flown in any special order. Senior Captains can also fly missions from the Captain Assignments sheet as long as they are less then 25% of hours reported per month. Those missions are not repeated here to avoid aircraft use confusion. |
These missions are designed to aid a variety of scientific research projects. Some are available in all Operations Centers, while others may have only a single site. However, all pilots are permitted to fly site limited missions. In the Information column below you will be directed to a data source or provided flight information. Once you have located a item of interest, just set-up a flight plan based on the Mission Profile and take-off. To refresh your memory on the Mission Profile just click on the Mission Code. Use of 1X flight is required within 100 miles of the system and anytime data collection is in progress, up to 4X can be used but is not encouraged elsewhere. Don't forget to send any top notch Blackbox datasets to the home office at whi@avsim.com .

These missions are designed to research the various aspects of Winter Storms within the Atlantic Basin Operations Center. We hope to add research into New Zealand storms in the future as a Southern Hemisphere alternative. Pilots from all Centers can fly these missions. To find the location of the current North American Winter Storms just jump to the Current Surface Map link below. If you need help with Surface Map Analysis, check out the AVSIM Weather Resource training materials. Once you have located a storm system of interest and the appropriate area for your mission, just set-up a flight plan based on the Mission Profile and take-off. To refresh your memory on the Mission Profile just click on the Mission Code.
