About This File

The download link to the Guide appears to be fixed but I will keep the link below up for a while in case it fails again.

Here is a link to download the P3D Guide  - https://1drv.ms/b/s!AhI63XLVLrGnnTlbI7GpHuhS7vko?e=kEMvM8

Apologize for any inconvenience.

This AVSIM Prepar3D Guide will cover the following topics to help users get the most of Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D platform.  Some of the information in this guide is applicable to prior versions of Prepar3D (V2.x and V1.x), however the primary focus of this guide will be for Prepar3D V3.x onward:

  •           Installation and purchase
  •           Updating to a more recent Version
  •           Configuring Graphics Settings
  •           Working with Configuration Files
  •           Configuring 3rd Party Add-Ons
  •           SimConnect
  •           Troubleshooting
  •           Hardware, Overclocking, Performance
  •           Input Control Devices (TrackIR, Yokes, Throttles)

The basic flow of this guide will take you thru; basic purchase and installation process, how to update your Prepar3D installation when new versions are released, configuring your graphics settings, exposing what settings increase process loads, adjusting you 3rd party products configuration settings to improve performance, some Prepar3D configuration settings (often called “tweaks”), setup of SimConnect (used by many 3rd party products), working thru compatibility with older FSX products, a quick guide to basic overclocking, and finally setting up input control devices (controllers).

This document will assume limited computer experience, but it will cover both easy and advanced topics.  Parts of this document will expect users to understand how to use a text editor (like Notepad) to edit/modify content in text files.

Hopefully there is some information to be gain in this document for the new user and the experienced user.

Dear @Rob Ainscough why do you recommend in each of the graphics profiles, in none of them for simobjects shadows to be enabled ?

A shadow from the aircraft to the ground improves SOO much the realism in flight simulation.

Is the hit that big to exclude it from any profile ?

Excellent guide, thanks.

Some scenery can impose considerable processing overhead when using SimObject shadows ...

Dear Rob, thanks, but

I checked the P3D Learning center but I could not find the differences.

From the below items:

Internal Vehicle

External Vehicle

SimObjects

Vegetation

Buildings

NoShadow Flagged Content

Which is my aircraft ?

What is an internal and what an external vehicle ?

I want the aircraft I fly to still cast its shadow on the ground. This is what my question was about.

In your video above yours does cast its shadow on the ground and the setting you describe is not about aircraft but the simobject type of building parts.

Regards

Rob

I'm contemplating moving over to Prepar3d v4 from FSXDX10 in the near future and this guide looks exactly what I need to get started and plan my next move.

Are there any plans to update your guide to accomodate the changes made to P3D?

Cheers

Brent

Hi Rob

This looks like the answer to me. However, the guide won't download. The link seems 'broken.'

Thank you

Has it occurred to you that they have taken it off so they can work on a newer version?

Just saying.

I believe the guide was created by PMDG head Rob Ainscough. Since PMDG has it's own separate forum out of Avsim....connect the dots pls.

Rob is not the head of PMDG and as far as I know, he has nothing to do with PMDG development. He is, however, a Beta tester for LM , the developers of P3d.
