What if your landing altitude is greater than 999?

Featured Replies

Seems that the little knob that dials in your landing alt. only goes up to 999. What do I do if I have to land in Denver for example (5000 ft alt.)?Thanks again,Chris

ChrisAre you referring to the Decision Altitude adjustment knob? As this is based on radar altitude the barometric height of the airfield has no influence.Andrew Luck18 miles SW EGSH

No - I'm talking about the planned landing altitude dial up in the overhead panel on the right. According the the startup procedure, I am supposed to dial in the planned landing weight. Thanks,Chris

Chris,Actually, the 757 isn't authorized to land at any airports with a field elevation above 999ft. *:-*I believe this occured because the panel charts only showed a 3 digit number in the window. The 4th digit was masked, so it appeared as if it didn't exist. In fact, the window should scroll up to 9999. Just my best guess.RegardsPaul:-cool

Thanks as always. As long as we're on the subject, could you make any sense about my post on calculating "wind factor"? Are there standard numbers for this depending on direction & altitude? I can't seem to accurately plan my fuel w/o any thought to the wind factor. :-(Thanks a million my aviation guru!Chris

Actually, the Planned Landing Altitude setting goes well into four digits. Sometimes however, the aircraft loads up and the setting won't go above 999 ft. A reload will usually fix it; try selecting another A/C, and the re-selecting the 757.Since I don't usually find out the PLA setting is limited to 999 until after I've done weight & balance, fuel loadout, startup and FMC/CDU setup, it is too big a pain to worry about the PLA setting, because reloading means doing all the foregoing over again!- Dave Reed"If you can walk away, it's a good landing. If the aircraft is still airworthy, it's a great landing..."
