February 15, 200323 yr The 757/777 tax the video card when I am using the dynamic scenery option. Most models are ok except the pmdg's ones: they require additional 1024 slots, which I don't have. Is there a way to reduce their external texture or to have fly2 not call them ? thanks, and hope you're having fun with the 737.tony
February 15, 200323 yr Commercial Member There sure is! You can change the texture to 512*512, 256*256, 128*128, 64*64, or (God forbid) 32*32. ----------------------------------Here is what you need to do. You will need an image editing program that can at least open a TIF file and reduce it in size:*Open to the PMDG 777 pod.*Extract the following files to a temp directory:For the 777:-72AFPR.TIF-72BA.TIF-72PM.TIF-72UA.TIF-72UAPR.TIFFor the 757:-52PM.TIF-52PMNITEA.TIF-52PMNITEB.TIF-52PMNITEC.TIF-52PMNITED.TIFIf you have any extra liveries that you downloaded, basically look for ART files in the pods that are 1,026kb or 2,050kb in size and start with the prefix 72 (for the 777) or 52 (for the 757)*Now open these files in your image program.*Reduce the size of each file to your preference: 512*512, 256*256, etc*Save all these files to your Fly!II/ART/ Directory*Make sure ure you edit your fly.ini file so that the searchpodfile line reads searchPodFilesFirst=0----------------------------------------That's it, now your 777 and 757 will use smaller textures (but won't look as nice). Let us know if you have any questions.Make sure ure you edit your fly.ini file so that the searchpodfile line reads searchPodFilesFirst=0VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif Vin Scimone Precision Manuals Development Group www.precisionmanuals.com
February 15, 200323 yr Commercial Member Tony, I almost forgot. If you don't want Fly!II to call on them for Dynamic Scenery, just remove the pods from your aircraft folder. However, you won't be able to fly them if you do that...VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif Vin Scimone Precision Manuals Development Group www.precisionmanuals.com
February 15, 200323 yr Thanks, Vin. And to answer your other suggestion... are you kidding? To be without these planes is to leave very good friends (like all of you at PMDG) behind. Never!. the fact is that external views are nice, but the total effect of having moving planes is better.tony
March 24, 200323 yr Vin:What kind of Render tweaks would you recommend so that when 757 or 777 planes are running in the background, things won't be so slow. I have a Ti4600 which gives me 128MB Video memory on the card, so I can probably get away with some space at the top end, but not much. Let me know your thoughts. I don't want to "dumb down" the planes - they are wonderful. And I have loads of 757 re-paints and a bunch of 777's, so it'll be a job and a half. Here's my Render.ini....(Graphics)premultiplyColorAndAlpha=0allowAutoMipMapping=0directTextureFlag=0mipLevelCount=8vertexIndexFormat=0(Textures)maxTextures32=32maxTextures32_565=32maxTextures64=32maxTextures64_565=204maxTextures128=164maxTextures128_565=400maxTextures256=120maxTextures256_565=300maxTextures512=8maxTextures512_565=1maxTextures1024=2mipMapFlag=896(NonAGP)maxTextures256_565=32(AGP)maxTextures256_565=32Appreciate the advice.-DK----David KohlFly! March 28, 200323 yr that should do it. It's the 1024 slots that count. I find that with these set at 2, sometimes I get a vertex error. So, I dummed down the paint, and, frankly, can't tell the difference.tony
