Just took my first MSFS 2002 flight

I think I FINALLY have everything installed that I need to start learning FS2002. Got my joystick calibrated, buttons assigned, axes set up (between my two controllers, a USB stick and analog pedals). I sat in the Cessna idling at Meigs but decided I wanted to start somewhere else instead. I thought I'd go to one of my favorite locations -- the Grand Canyon. Pretty soon my plane was idling on runway 3 at the Canyon. I pushed in the throttle... the Cessna lumbered down the runway (it was HOT in AZ lol) and then slowly lifted off.Given my unfamiliarity with the program, I was still impressed. The sim was smooth; the Cessna "felt" and sounded 'heavy' like a plane is supposed to (subjective, I know, but that was my initial impression). I can see I won't have any trouble getting used to the VCs either. I didn't actually get INTO the Canyon.... I just turned back to the airport and set the plane back down. I have no idea what FRs I was getting (haven't figured out how to turn 'em on yet), but the sim performed well. Of course, this impression may drastically change once I start adding 3rd party stuff!! LOL So my initial impression of MSFS2002 Pro is very favorable. I'm looking forward to playing with it some more. -Lindy :-spacecraft

Thats great to hear. My advice Lindy? Don't learn how to turn the framerate counter on! :-) While good for troubleshooting and the like, it seems you've got your system back to being stable. I'd keep the counter off permanently unless you feel anything becomes amiss in the future. If you feel like things are getting too slow, just slide the sliders back down. Ignore the framerates: since this is FS, they're only bound to depress you. :-) Thankfully, as pointed out many times before, even at its low frames FS is fairly fluid all things considered.Congrats on your new (hopefully permanent) stable system.Take care, http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif

Excellent!!!! How did I miss this post hours ago? Was at work.... I guess!tips for the VC cockpit:Use ctrl enter to move the seat back a bit without changinh the outside zoom. Ctrl backspace will move it the other way. Shift enter/backspace will move it up & down. Then use the hat switch. L key to get some lights on.For the 182's--------- try Rob's (Real Air Simulations) modified air files. Ron Freimuth has an excellent one for the 172 which I can E-mail. For the Baron & Caravan, there is some Steve Small files, that I have hidden away :)The Dreamfleet (payware) ArcherII is a must & pick up Geof Applegates free Bonanaza while your at it! Lindy: Welcome aboard! If you like the Grand Canyon then you must try my 001Prop flight plan, available from the Avsim FS2002 flight library. It is a default FS2K2 GPS plan, the autopilot does the navigation for you while you simply control the altitude, sit back and enjoy the scenery. It is a flight of about 2 hours duration and flies in the Canyon not above it. Since whoever built the Canyon had never heard of a straight edge, the flight follows every bend and turn throughout its length using 691 waypoints to do so (three cheers for the autopilot, it takes care of the waypoints). Set-up files, instructions on how to place them and full flight briefing is also included in the zip. You will be in good company since the plan has had 1,373 downloads. I might have to take you up on that, Denis, especially since my favorite flight when I was using ProPilot99 was through the Canyon. Lindy: Jolly good show! Another sale made, can I be far from fame and riches I ask, LOL. The writing of that plan is burnt deeply into my memory since it took about 64 hours to complete (for a two hour flight?). I image that if you stand on the rim of the Canyon in real life, it looks very wide. In FSK2K trying squeeze the Skyhawk around those bends, it seemed as wide as a mouse

To jump-start yourself to dramatically increased enjoyment with the sim, consider adding a second PCI video card and monitor. Then install FSNAV and use it on the second monitor. Well shoot.....Someone needs to do a scenery package! Just tried out the new Kona/Keyhole Airport on the Big Island of Hawaii scenery by Bill Melichar & it's a nice re-creation!In the meantime...... That's a very good point. I always try to keep off my FPS counter when the sim is flying smooth. I have a tendency to want to tweak my system more if the FPS are "low" and last time I went into a tweaking frenzy, I crashed my entire Hard Drive. :DRyan-Flightpro08 :-coolTaxiwaysigns.com

Thanks Ed.....I'll go grab it right away.I wanted to try one of those interactive "flight lessons" but FS02 kept telling me that I didn't have MS Media Player installed!!! I do so too....I even used it to play some songs and avi files and such. But I gave in and d/l'd version 7.1 (I think it was and it IS pretty cool). Then I took the beginner's lesson and I REALLY liked that.... it reminded me a great deal of the first original Flight Unlimited for DOS which also had a virtual "flight instructor" fly along with you (although you didn't need a particular program nor did you need to be online at the time, but this IS Micro$oft after all...:-lol )I'm not going crazy d/ling stuff yet. But I did grab a couple of air files from Rob Young's team and installed those water effects that I posted about earlier (the ones with no installation instructions), now I'll be adding Big Red to my hangar. I think I'll like the program very much (and boy! do I HATE admitting that!!! :-lol ) Take care and don't start any forest fires. -Lindy :-spacecraft
