Regarding RAM, how can I tell...

Recommended Posts

I'm having lockup problems, in fact, just as bad as I did with my old PII system (AMD Thunderbird 1400, GeForce3 Ti, 256K RAM).Poking around in DxDiag, I found a screen showing that of the 256K RAM, 348KB was available; sometimes there seems to be 70 MB available.Obviously a problem, but what can I use to see what is hogging which resource. Thanks in advance.Rob Goldmanrobatc@attbi.com

With 256k of RAM, your FS2K2 will need to use the Windows swap file - 1. go to Start/Find/Files - type in: system.ini and clcik "find now"2. right click on the file and chose open3. scroll down the page until you get to a header [386ENH]4. copy and paste this under your existing entries:ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1CPUPriority=2heres what mine looks like:[386Enh]ebios=*ebioswoafont=app850.fonmouse=*vmouse, msmouse.vxddevice=*dynapagedevice=*vcddevice=*vpddevice=*int13keyboard=*vkddisplay=*vdd,*vflatdCacheBlockSize=0018450DDD04C1010DCacheLineSize=009866B5B80CC10139COMBoostTime=1PageBuffers=32ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1CPUPriority=2DMABufferSize=64LocalLoadHigh=1PCIConcur=1FastDRAM=1 AGPConcur=1Paging=on5. use google to find a couple of smart utilities: i. Cacheman ii.End it All (or EnditAll)download and use them.6. Buy more RAM: the best you can afford Crucial or Corsair and ensure CAS2 (NOT CAS3)Apologies if you know all this stuff, but its all I can think of.Phil H.
