WANTED: A FLYABLE CONNIE FOR FS2002

Recommended Posts

I tried this past weekend to fly a Consellation in old TWA colorsI downloaded a while back from Tom Gibson's Classic Airlines Web site. The plane was listed as designed for fs98 and fs2000. Since some fs 2000 planes work in fs2002, I gave it a try. Ground handling was OK...no problems with take off, or even landings. But, anytime I tried to climb beyond 10k, I progressively lost airspeed and lift...even trying to climb at 500 fpm. I have not played around with fuel loads, but cannot believe that a real connie could not climb with full fuel in its tanks. So, is the flaw in the airfile, and is anyone interested in designing a connie for fs2k2. It's such a beautiful aircraft, I hate not being able to enjoy it.Thanks!Sherman KaplanHIghland Park IL

This behaviour is a special feature of these airfiles. You have to climb in steps and constantly optimize the fuel/air mixture and propeller blade pitch - like in reality. And it's more fun, too! :)ckfly

Dave McQueen has created a Connie for FS2002. You can get it from my Cal Classics page or direct from his page (more liverys there too):http://flightsimmers.net/airport/airliners/BTW, if you don't have Auto-Lean set in Aircraft/Realism, you will have to lean the engines over about 8,000 ft or you will have no power above that altitude. Also, a real Connie with full fuel tanks will not typically climb above around 15,000 ft, until it uses some of it's fuel.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

You owe me a keyboard Al. I just filled this one up with drool! Nice buddy! (WHEN AL WHEN?????????) :)To answer the other question too, the real Connies are supercharged and I don't know if MS can do that. Don

Thanks to everyone for all your responses. That's what I love about this hobby....everyone is here to help out everyone else. Thanks particularly for the tips on flying the available connies. The fuel leaning recommendation from Tom seems particularly applicable, because it is around 8000 that the plane begins to seriously labor. Otherwise, handling is fine, especially when on taxi.
