Maneuvering Speed Indications

Recommended Posts

Heo!What represent the maneuvering speed indications on the speed tape on the PFD? The minimal or maximal maneuvering speed for that flap setting?Regards, Nejc

The upper red bricks display the maximum operating speed. The maximum operating speed is the lowest of Vmo/Mmo, landing gear down or flap placard limit speed. When the flaps are up, the start of the amber arc shows the maximum maneuvering speed. The start of the lower red bricks shows the minimum operating speed. It is the speed at which stick shaker occurs. The top of the lower amber arc shows the minimum maneuvering speed. You can bank a maximum of 40 degrees before stick shaker occurs. With flaps not up, the start of the upper amber arc displays the maximum speed for the next flap position.[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Hi Nejc,Randy's spot on there, but are you talking about the green flap speed bugs on the speed tape? They are as the name "manoeuvring speed" suggests: not minimum or maximum speeds but simply the appropriate speed to fly for a flap setting. If you want to fly around with flap 5 set for localiser interception, you fly at the flap 5 bug speed. If you want to fly at the minimum clean speed in a hold, fly at the flaps up bug.For acceleration after a flap 5 takeoff, set flap 1 once accelerating from V2+20, set flap up at the flap 1 bug and continue accelerating to your chosen speed. For deceleration, set flap 1 at the flap up bug, flap 5 at the flap 1 bug, flap 15 at the flap 5 bug etc.Confused? ;)
