Aircraft Veering To Left & Right During Taxi & Take Off

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,Firstly, thanks again for the help you gave me last week regarding my questions concerning the FMC and FS 2004 ATC - thanks to your advice and tips, i've learnt how to use the two of them in conjunction there by experiencing the benefits of both with minimum hassle.I hope you will be able to help me with this subject please.I've noticed that when I use SHIFT + P to pushback the aircraft from a gate, if I zoom in so that I can see the front wheels, I notice that they are twitching from left to right quite quickly for some reason. Also during taxi and take off, the aircraft veers to the left or the right and does not stay on the taxi way line or runway line without having to use rudder control on the joystick and literally hold it in place to keep the aircraft centered.I have tried it with no wind whatsoever as well using the advanced customisation features of the FS 2004 weather system but same problems occur. My joystick is a USB connected one and is self centering so it is already calibrated and using the latest drivers e.t.c.I've toyed around with the sensitivity settings but they've not made a difference.Does anyone have any advice on this please?Secondly, I notice that on take off, even with sensitivity right down, on rotation, the nose of the aircraft shoots up even with very slight pressure on the joystick. The aircraft does climb and there is no problem at all, but even with an empty aircraft as set in the Load Manager, this happens and is odd.Lastly, on approach when I apply flaps and use the appropriate flaps for the speed the aircraft is flying at, the aircraft nose always pitches up to the first heavy line on the artificial horizon for some reason and I am unsure why - I know this is meant to happen on final approach for the flare just prior to landing but it happens as soon as I apply any flaps at the appropriate speeds on approach. Thanks in advance for your help :)

This is definitely a joystick problem. I was getting it with both the MS Sidewinder. So I switched to my my CH Pro yoke. Same thing. I tried calibrating through WinXP but no help. You might try re-installing the joystick drivers. I know you already have, but that is what it took for me. I was having the same problems with FS9. I'd taxi along and get a full slam deflect to the left or right. I also was geeting the same full up elevator with barely the slightest back pressure as well. This solved both problems.Sounds to me like your system is reading old information even with reinstalling. Make sure before you try reinstalling drivers you clean your registry and search for any old .dll drivers for your device and delete them. Even if your software has an uninstall program it doesn't always clean the registry when it does it's thing. Clean, reboot and then install again. That should cure it.Hope it helps. Good luck.

This won't help you, but it may help figure it out. I've flown with keyboard only (Sidewinder Pro unattached to the PC), and also have had the deflection during take off (and the left/right "flicker" effect during pushback).Interestingly enough, if I change to a different departing runway from the same airport, it goes away.Makes me wonder about the "No Wind" setting within the sim.

Hi there,Thanks to the both of you for your comments and advice.I've tried uninstalling the joystick, removing all the drivers & registry entries and then reinstalling the latest software again but this made no difference.I calibrated the joystick in Windows XP again, played around with the sensitivity and null zone settings again but same problem. That is a very interesting comment you make regarding the No Wind setting and I think that it does appear to be valid.Another thing could be the realism settings as they all mention that the higher they are set, the more left veering occurs however I am unsure whether this refers to the PMDG aircraft or just the default FS ones.I will have to continue toying around with the settings to see if I can resolve the issue hopefully. Thanks :)

Hi Richie,I have not had the problems with the 737NG veering left and right. However I am curious on the realism settings. I went to max realism and got some strange behaviors such as excessive sinking during landing at times. Also the aircraft I am told is very easy to fly in real life, however I did notice that it seems with the max realism setting in FS9 it was a little too hard to control.I am now checking the NG with the realism setting on minimum to compare handling characteristics.Anyone else notice handling changes, and what is the realism setting most of you are using?Bob
