Does the MCP have any kind of heading hold?

Featured Replies

Hello,Just wondered if the NG 737 MCP has any kind of heading hold mode similiar to a B767? I fully understand the heading select function, just wanted to know if I could hold on a current heading other than using heading select and dialing in a course. Thank you.

Thanks Randy - could you elaborate on what 'CWS R' is in reference to a roll mode? Couldn't find it in the PMDG 737 aircraft operating manual.

James French,The CWS modes are not programed in PMDG's 737. However, they do show up as they should (Indications> Yellow), but it's just an eye candy (And I love it) since the actual system is not modeled. The Control Wheel Steering, or CWS for short is divided into 2 systems but still remains the same: A/P maneuvers the aircraft in response to control pressure applied by the pilot. When that pressure is released the aircraft holds existing attitude. The 2 systems are:CWS P or PCWS > PITCH Control Wheel Steering Mode is engaged when the CWS AP button is selected, when Pitch mode is deselected, or when no Pitch mode is selected, if I am not mistaken. You hold the Joke to the desired pitch you would like the aircraft to maintain and that's it. It will maintain that pitch or attitude. (Let's say you want 15 Nose up, then you would raise the Aircraft's nose to 15 Degrees, hold it for some secs and release the pressure) CWS R or RCWS > ROLL Control Wheel Steering Mode is engaged then the CWS AP button is selected, when Roll mode is deselected, or when no Roll mode is selected, again: if I am not mistaken. When AP is in RCWS command, you roll the aileron to the desired bank and the CWS AP will hold that bank or attitude. (Let's say you want a 25 Right Bank, then you would turn the aileron to the right, until it reaches 25, hold it and slowly release the pressure) Hope this helps,Bruno Francescoli.

Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehe Oh did I say CWS? Hummmmmmmmmmmmm See no evil hear and SPEAK no evil, damn I failed.... Let me add to Bruno's reply, If you are in A/P CMD HDG SEL or a pitch mode and HOLD and apply pressure to the controls (either a pressure for pitch or roll) the A/P will REVERT to Active CWS. Pretty cool these Boeings eh? [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/196432/winglets_lg.jpg

There's no heading hold, but there's a

Thanks for the info. I know that in some aircraft there is a feature called 'synch heading to lubber line' - I believe it goes something like press the heading select knob to automatically align HEADING SELECT to current aircaft lateral track.

Thank you Guys!Do you know if it works with Precision Flight Controls?Thank you,Bruno Francescoli.

So CWS is just like the Airbus FBW?

OK, I was thinking that since CWS operation sounds like the actual description of FBW.
