Extreme "scintillation" in Oshkosh scenery?

Recommended Posts

I have an effect that I see on my screen in both FS2002 and Train Sim. I use the expression "scintillation" for it. It is difficult for me to describe -- it is only evident when there is movement on the screen . It is a kind of "high speed flashing" and , when looked at closely, looks like certain edges of 3d buildings are being "redrawn".Now , when I first ran the new Oshkosh scenery, it was VERY evident and unfortunately spoils the effect of the scenery. Does anybody else know what I am talking about? Another post here was discussing monitor vertical sync rates -- and Iwas wondering about that. My son (who is a professional games programmer - mostly programmes in low level assembler) tells me that on-screen video is at its best when the monitor rate equals the game frame rate - now obviously this is never going to happen in FS2002 -- but I am wondering if different monito vertical sync rates can have some ositive/negative effect on this "scintillation"

It may be aliasing... are you looking across all the parked planes? Let us know your video card, resolution and refresh rate, and I'm sure we'll be able to come up with some suggestions for you to try...Derek

(Scintillation is a kind of twinkling like stars)Geforce 2 MX with AA selected , 1028x768,refresh rate 85

Yea, I get that same thing, even with AA turned on on my GF3. I just don't think the Nvidia antialiasing is very good at the lines that are close to vertical or horizontal...Hopefully someone smarter tham me in this will hop on the the thread and make some suggestions...Derek

bumpThere has been LOTS of discussion here about blurries and framerates -- but virtually nothing about this "scintillation"".I am quite surprised as I personally find it quite annoying and it REALLY takes away from any kind of realism in the scenery.
