December 14, 200322 yr I've been lurking here for a long time, and have to thank the PMDG team for the excellent product. I love flying the 737 even if it had a few quirks with SU1-1. And I've followed every single thread her eon SU2, and been waiting for the mail about the update. It arrived this morning and got caught by my spam filter. I thought I'd post the details here, both for PMDG sake so they can see how it got caught, and as an alert for others to check their daily spam. I use a tool called SpamAssassin and this is the report it generated when it tagged the mail as spam:Content analysis details: (5.5 points, 5.0 required) pts rule name description---- ---------------------- -------------------------------------------------- 1.4 X_LIBRARY Message has X-Library header 2.8 MIME_BOUND_RKFINDY Spam tool pattern in MIME boundary (rfkindy) 0.3 NO_REAL_NAME From: does not include a real name 0.2 MIME_BOUND_NEXTPART Spam tool pattern in MIME boundary 0.8 PRIORITY_NO_NAME Message has priority setting, but no X-Mailer...someone at PMDG might want to reconsider what tools are used for mass mailings. And now, for the SU2 hunt... cya :)
December 14, 200322 yr Alexander,True enough but did you know that, besides PMDG, even bigger firms such as Creative are detected and thrown out by spamkillers...?Last night I bought something from their website because it is hard to find here in Belgium and when I got my confirmation from Creative, that message was intercepted by my spamkiller... as SPAMJust be vigilant about it and check every mail. You don't want to miss the important ones.By the way, after six hours of trying, this is becoming more and more absurd.PMDG, your plane has been grounded... I just removed the covers of my A330, rolled out of the hangar and started refueling. I am giving up on the 737. Maybe, just maybe, I come back for the version of Fs15Luc 'Glaudrung' BrusselmansBelgium
December 14, 200322 yr Aren't you overreacting a bit? With every big update for every populair product comes a long wait because of full servers. You'll be flying it in no time ;).David Walschots
December 14, 200322 yr David, Am I really overreacting?PMDG wouldn't be in this position if they had produced a complete and finished and bugfree product in the first place. And I don't have 5 or 6 or 12 or more hours to waste on this. Simming is a hobby for which I have little enough time already and sitting here, doing nothing but clicking on the refreshbutton is not my idea of a great sunday. So, away with the 737, sorry for the money I spent on it but then again, not that sorry because the last couple of hours have cost me more (if you want to pay my hourly fee, I am sure you will agree) that buying 10 other addon's that are available.Am I oerreacting...?Probably but since there is no law against it... who is going to bring charges against me?Luc 'Glaudrung' BrusselmansBelgium
December 14, 200322 yr Are you holding it against PMDG that you cannot wait untill the storm calms here? If simming is a hobby, why treat it like your life depended on it? :)And you have probably not been involevd with development of software, since you claim this should all have been there in the first place...I'd say you are overreacting, but noone is bringing charges against you, most people are just mildly amused by this behavour, and we thank you and all others behaving like this for the entertainment while waiting for the queues to clear ;)On a more serious note, regarding triggering the SA filters this way, I find it strange that they have to resort to this any of sending mail; it is extremely easy to set up an operation to distribute very large amounts of mails in a very legit and nice way tht doesnt conflict with spam filters of any kind. Before anyone jumps and says not so, I've had a very simple setup distribute 100k mails of the size of PMDG's update mail in a very timely and nice manner at no additional cost than the infrastructre the client already had.
December 14, 200322 yr >PMDG wouldn't be in this position if they had produced a>complete and finished and bugfree product in the first place.Throughout it's life history, the 737NG has been very flyable. Yes, there were some limitations due to the fuel issues and whatnot, but indeed flyable. The release of SU2 will bring it above and beyond it's current systems, for it is not only a patch for problems, but an UPDATED aircraft with additional features! NO software developer can be expected to write flawless code for a groundbreaking product. ZERO. Operating systems, productivity applications, games, game addons, and every genre inbetween. We demand usable software, and we demand a developer's best effort. There have been many cases where a developer's best efforts have not been enough, but this is clearly not one of them. What we expect is that problems be discovered and proactive steps are taken to remedy them in a timely manner. PMDG is an INDUSTRY LEADER in customer relations - they have kept us up-to-date and informed every step of the way, including over the past 12 hours. They warned us that the server load will be high. They warned us to use download managers. Quite simply, "this is the way it is", and there is nothing that can be done to fix it, they told us, and that's that. The server situation is no surprise to most of us who read the emails and forum postings. The servers are falling victim to the aircraft's popularity. A fatter pipe to their server would be nice, but isn't this a strong testiment to the quality and popularity of this airplane?>And I don't have 5 or 6 or 12 or more hours to waste on this. Then don't. The patch isn't going anywhere. Take a breath, go fly another airplane, and try again next week or something. You don't have do download it now. >So, away with the 737, sorry for the money I spent on it...(shrug) If you want to ditch an airplane that you've spent money on, that's your decision. But I think to ditch it and write off the company for this is a but much.>Am I overreacting? Probably but since there is no law against it... who is going to bring charges against me?Just the common sense police. And common sense tells me that you'll keep trying, get your update, and enjoy the aircraft like the rest of us - even after your post here. Good luck on the download...-Greg
