Hello Uwe,this is one of the misconceptions I had having been an Airbus driver for over a year.I used to think this applied to all airplanes and used to do this on the PIC 767 with disastrous results on t/off since I was departing with spoilers deployed! :-))Boeing planes extend automatically the spoilers once reverse thrust is engaged during an RTO, so there's no arming to be done unlike the Airbus planes.As for the amber message I wanted to ask the same question. Mine doesn't illuminate...but actually never did...only the green armed message shows up. I have noticed that it shows up even when they are fully deployed on the -700.Regards,Bjorn

If you have trouble arming on the ground by all means use the lever. Speedbrakes extended? Where do you get the idea that a any 737 has such a message? Hi Randy,on the DF 734 there used to be the amber "speedbrake extended" light.Don't know if it was accurate or maybe on the classics this is present...you guys sure know more about it then I. :-))Regards,Bjorn

Hihi, I suspected something like that! Darned busses...Randy, another question arises then, which warning or annunciation is placed below the speedbrakes armed field?

As Randy has said, there is no speedbrake extended light on the 737.You are probably mixing it up with the "Speed brake - Do not arm" light that is right below the "speed brake armed" light. It will illuminate if there is a failure in the auto speedbrake system or anything that affects its operation.Regards,Mark

Jeez guys, there is a SPEEDBRAKES EXTENDED light on the 737NG. It's AMBER and it's on the F/O's side. It's the left annunciator above the ND.It is, however only illuminated if a fault exists, for example to warn you if you have speedbrakes extended with more than flaps 10 or below 800 ft RA, or on the ground when the SPEED BRAKE lever is down but the ground spoilers are not stowed.Randy, you can keep your shirt though, I don't want it :)Izhttp://www.planetizzy.com/files/spb.jpg

Oops!Okay my mistake with assuming the NG is similar to the classic in that regard (the comparison sometimes does work :-) )On the classics you only have the "Do not arm" light. Or maybe it's a company option?Mark

Yeah, that guy is me :) However, the 737NG also has a SPEED BRAKE DO NOT ARM light which indicates a fault in the auto-speedbrake system. It means that you cannot put the lever in the armed detent to prevent inadvertent auto speedbrake deployment in flight.Iz
