I have been updating my Nevada scenery and mesh in preparation for my next DCA flight from Elko to Reno and just finished installing Shigeo Ishii's Las Vegas, filename: vgas2002.zip.If you thought the default Vegas had eye-candy, wait until you get a load of this! From Shiego's read-me file:"This is the scenery intended to give more detail to FS2002.Airport2.60, VOD3.0, and ASD2.1 were used for the creation.Hotels, buildings, trees, and terrains were created by referring to the video, the tourist guide, and maps which I got while traveling to Las Vegas."My system isn't as powerful as a lot of yours but it handled it quite well. After flying down the main boulevard like a scene out of "1941" I got some screenshots for you to peruse below.Great job Shiego!!Cheers!Heather

Ooops! Sorry guys! I do so much here at AVSIM that I forget that I "stray" now and then to see what little goodies I can find elsewhere. It's at:http://www.fsfreeware.com/cgi-bin/dcd_a/dcd.cgiFS2002/SceneryFilename:vgas2002.zipCheers!Hather

Thanks Heather and Scott.....it's downloading as I type. (Of course at 34 mbs!!!! it's going to take a while.)Now a question. Since this is obviously VERY detailed scenery, if it brings my lowly P3 700 mHz to its knees, how do I uninstall it? I haven't yet had to uninstall any scenery that I've gotten. But I suspect this one is going to be more than my computer can take.-Lindy :-rotor wannabe

Hi Lindy!I'm not running much more than you with a P3 800. I suppose a lot may be determined by other criteria such as your video card and RAM. Mine is a GeForce2, 64 meg and I'm running with 512RAM. Most of my sliders are set from 75 to 100% I did get a little bit of slideshow at this Vegas scenery but not entirely unacceptable. The way I installed it was the usual unzip to a temp folder, then made it's own folder called Las Vegas, with it's sub folders of Scenery and Texture.I then put it in the FS2002/ADDON SCENERY folder and installed it from within the sim via the World scenery menu.If you don't like it and wish to "uninstall" it, it will only be a matter of going into the ADDON SCENERY folder and deleting the Las Vegas folder. There are install instructions with it but just in case you're not the type to read those until the last resort, you will have to COPY some of the "effect" files over, such as the fountain, volcano, etc. It tells you how in the Read-me file.Have fun!Heather

Thanks, Heather.... hehehe, actually I DO read instructions. I hate it when stuff goes wrong, so I try to minimize that possibility whenever I can. The installation instructions seemed pretty straight forward. He mentioned having used Airport 2.60, VOD 3(I think it was 3) and some other textures to create the scenery. So I imagine I'll have to install those programs as well before I can use the Vegas scenery. I know it's necessary, but it sure is a pain to d/l scenery and then realize I have to go download something else in order to make it work. Oh well, the "price" of freeware, I guess.....*smile* No biggie... it just takes a little longer. That was a pretty cool website Heather and there seemed to be lots of great looking downloads available. Thanks for the link. -Lindy :-wave

Hey there Heather,I had a question, and wondered if you could do something for me if you have time. I've been hitting my head against the wall trying to figure out why I am getting lower FPS than I probably should be getting, and your post got my interest. With a P3 800 and 512 megs of ram (and 75% - 100% sliders maxed), what kind of frames do you get in the generic startup situation (rwy 36 at Meigs in Chicago)? I get around 12-13 FPS sitting at Meigs, with about 75% of the sliders maxed. I have a P4 2.0 w/1 gig of ram (GeForce 3 Ti 500), and I think I should be getting better frames. SO sorry to lay this one on you, it's just that I'd like to get an idea of what I'm dealing with for frames. : )Best,Bobber

Yes, I thought so too; in regards to that being a pretty nice site. It is well laid out where you can easily go straight to whatever genre' interests you. I went through the entire FS2002 Scenery library, looking for any more goodies I don't already have from AVSIM.I would say that a good 90% of what you'll see there, you will also find here, but I did nab some interesting tid-bits, like, besides scenery, the Junkers 52 in either civilian or military livery, and one version on floats. But alas, my heart belongs to AVSIM and one must always follow their heart. I may roam and go elsewhere for treats, but I always come back here for the real meat and potatoes.;)Cheers!Heather

Hi there VaLady,Going up to Vegas tomorrow and flying to Melvis the next day. Should I drop a few coins in a slot for you? :-) It shant be the same without you and the Porkster there and Big Red is staying at home. :-lolSpeaking of Big Red, since your conversing with Heather (sister simmer to sister simmer so to speak)why don't you see if she would complete the paint job on Big Red in FS2K2. I've got lots of pictures. :-)You can tell her how good a pilot I am :-laugh1 and how I give rides to fellow simmers that show up on our door step in Lake Havasu City.I'll drop you a line when we get back.Cap'n Tall

More than happy to help out Bob :)Also, I made a mistake, I'm back to 256 RAM as my brother wanted his RAM card back after he got his monitor fixed. (He wasn't using it at the time). To get the best results, I did a fresh reboot, shutting the system completely down and turning it back on again.Made sure there was nothing running in the background, as far as I know anyway. CTRL+ALT+DEL shows nothing and there's nothing down in the task bar, but "End It All" shows all kinds of stuff. I used to use End-It-All all the time with Win-98 but last time I tried it with XP, things got screwy so I stopped using it.My System is as follows:Pentium III 800 mhzGeForce2 MX400 with 64 RAM256 RAM (Until I can sneak my brother's card out again)Started up FS2002 Pro with a default at Meigs FieldWhile sitting with engine idling, system NOT paused, I was fluctuating between 14.6 and 15.2 frame rate. The following screenshots will show you my settings (was easier to do it this way than write it all down).I hope this helps; and if anyone sees anything on my settings that should be adjusted for better performance, I'd appreciate your letting me know.Hope this helps you Bob.Cheers!HeatherP.S.; I do not know if it is true or not but I have read and heard in more than one place that Windows, or was it FS2002, will not utilize any extra RAM over 512. Again, this is what I have heard, can't say for sure with any authority.

Thanks Heather! I appreciate you going through the trouble. I do admit that I have more of the options checked (and maxed) than you have...like the water option I have fully maxed. That may be the problem. Who knows? I've heard that reducing just some of the options may add 5 frames or so. I'll have to experiment!Once again, thanks for your help!Bobber

LindyAll textures that are mentioned are freeware. Don't panic. Shout in this thread if you need help finding them. Basically you should have Airport, VOD and NOVA textures (not to mention various other goodies) for a number of add-ons, so they're worth locating.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontP.S. This Vegas scenery has been out for some time, actually, so I've had time to explore. There are some real Easter eggs! You might need one of Bill Lyon's cars or a bike to find them - unless they let well-flown Jetrangers into casinos ....http://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg
