DC-3 accident on Video.

Yikes!!! :-eekWhat was the pilot thinking? Knee-high snow! No wonder the thing didn't make it. Thankfully, no one was hurt. DC-3's are tough, but not that tough.

Yup..That pilot is very exdperienced too. There is no way he should have attempted a take off in meter of snow. Even an R4D-8 uses 'ski's in such conditions.I guess this a situation that I don't believe can be replicated in FS2002.DC-3 (Que Sera Sera US Navy) was the first aircraft to land at the South Pole.. I guess this guy forgot about the fact it was equipped with Ski's though. :-)Regards.. TrevVisit "The DC-3 Hangar"http://www.douglasdc3.comhttp://www.douglasdc3.com/1/dc3.jpg

Thanks Trev for both the video clip and the great shot of the Ozark Gooney. And as us OLD (transplanted) midwesterners say, "Remember, Ozark spelled backward is Krazo." R- (KSAT, formerly KSPI)PS my second airplane ride was on an Ozark DC-3, my first was on an Illinois ANG C-47; a testhop after the wing bolts had been replaced. R-

How much damage do you suppose the plane took?

..That is so unfortunate....for a grand old aircraft to have had such a long service life...possibly finished now by this pilot's misjudgement and impatience...Whatever the damage...it may exceed the value of returning the plane to commercial service. What next..sans wings, convert it to a cheap hamburger joint....?

Let me remind you guys that this incident occured almost a month ago, and the aircraft is now flyable, with the only damage being sustained to the starboard nav light, and a scratch on the wing.http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/edenw/FS_..._banner_je5.jpg I took your love for grantedAnd all the things you said to meI need your arms to welcome meBut a cold stone's all I see

Thankfully, that's all that was damaged. Could have been substantially worse. And I'm not talking about the plane, but its "cargo." As I said before, DC-3's are tough planes, but not tough enough to overcome the stupidity of some pilots.

The damage to ZK-AWP consists of:-Both wings bent. Both Props ground strike (port during the take off roll!) Starboard in the ditch. Both engines shock-loaded, but starboard not running when ditchimpacted........ according to the pilot, but not borne out by videoevidence!Right undercarriage folded back, and requires replacement. All necessary parts have been bought by the insurers.Total damage very close to write-off value, but now repaired?Regards.. Whoops, it seems I have been mis-informed. I got the info from my next door neighbour who works for AirNZ... that damage seem much more likely. But that sort of damage should be able to be repaired..shouldn't it? :-)At least there wasn't any main damage to the fuselage. Sorry :-)http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/edenw/FS_..._banner_je5.jpg I took your love for grantedAnd all the things you said to meI need your arms to welcome meBut a cold stone's all I see
