Strange Repaint Problem

Recommended Posts

Guest wee_davie_2612

Hey all,I've recently been making a FedEx Express repaint for the B1900 but have run into a strange problem. The repainting is fine, no problems there, neither is there a problem converting the textures from 24bit to 32bit with alpha. The problem comes when I load up the aircraft in FS and get greeted with this sight when I step outside:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/78495.jpgNow, I know what your thinking...mip maps causing havoc. Nope, already removed them. The fix is the same as if they were caused by mips however, zoom all the way in then all the way back. I've done this in the next snap but some blurries remain:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/78496.jpgIt gets worse. If you move round to the back of the aircraft and look along it's flank at a slight angle the blurries are terrible.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/78497.jpgTo me this looks exactly like what would normally happen in FS9 if you had mips in the bitmaps... I've never seen this happen with a 32bit/no mips texture before. Has anyone else seen this and did you manage to fix it? If so can you let me know how?Cheers,DavidP.s. On the tail, about mid way up there are two small fins. Anyone know on which texture file they are on? Couldn't find them anywhere.

I had the same problem. Weird isn't it? To fix it I converted my original bitmaps to Targa files and then used Microsoft's Imagetool to convert the Targas to DXT3 format with no mips. That got rid of the blurries once and for all. Only by first converting to Targa files and then going from Targa to DXT3 did I manage to squash out the blurries.

Hey,Thanks for the tip. How do you add a alpha channel then? The way I've been saving the bitmaps follows this way:Photoshop PSD (i.e. the paint kit) -> Saved as 24 bit -> Into DXTbmp -> import previously made alpha -> save as 888-8 -> into Imagetool -> remove mipsSeems long winded there but can be done in under 30 seconds. Also I might have some trouble saving these bitmaps in compressed format because of the off white fuselage colour.CheersDavid

Thank you very much ruderdog! That wee gem of hint has solved the whole damned thing. It's a whole lot simpler aswell. I can still save them to 32bit format without trouble aswell. :-jumpy Also, forget the question about saving targa's with a alpha channel, I got it figured :)Thank you very much once again,Cheers,DavidP.s. Just FYI, the mods like everyone to sign there posts with there real name in this forum...it's in the rule book :)
